Form wizard places form outside of grid **SOLVED**

Post by Fredl »

Hello all,
I am adding a simple contact form to a page, I'm trying to place the form in a particular grid. When I use the wizard I place the square that will be the form in the desired position within a grid, but at the end of the process it drops the form at the bottom of the page. The form can't be moved as one piece it appears, if I try to drag it to the correct spot only one field moves, which now takes up all of the space horizontally, so all the alignment of elements is off. Is there a trick to placing the form, or moving it as one piece? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You can't place the form into a grid. However, a grid can be a form itself. You drag the form objects into the grid to make your form and in the grid properties, you will want to enable the grid as a form and fill in the form properties.

OK, thanks for that info. That seems like it makes forms very difficult to use, they can't be placed in a grid? How are we supposed to use them?
When I try to add form elements to the grid I'm having a lot of trouble getting them where I want them.
I'm trying to duplicate "contact 1" from the form wizard. I need a label for "Name" and a text field for the data, I need the same for an email address and a "send" button. The elements are all "full width" by default, so I uncheck that in properties, but as I try to place them they don't stay where I want them, or are in the way of the element I want to place next to them. I must be missing something because I'm not having any luck adding this simple form to where I want it on the page. I enabled form on the grid, I add a Label, then an "edit box" (unchecking full width for both) so far so good, now to add the same elements below that for email address I can't place them in the grid, the grid shrank down to the height of the first row and anything else I want to add falls outside the grid.

Instead of a label, use placeholder text in the editbox properties.

Here is an example of a site I did using a simple form in a grid. There's one on the main page, contact page and Request a quote under services.

OK, placeholder eliminates one problem, but I can't add a second editbox in the same grid (which is form enabled) it drops below the grid, or on top of the first one. I've tried to set the grid height to "fixed" but that doesn't help. The grid collapses to the size of the 1st form element I put in, and won't let me add another beneath it. When I add "text" i can type a word or two, the text box fills the space. I can add "text" again from the toolbox and it goes right where I want it to. I can repeat that as many times as I want, and the elements stay in the grid, one under the next. The form elements do not behave this way, is there a way to make them do so?

Adding form elements to a grid is just like adding any other object (text, image, etc). They will stack below each other this is because a grid is floating and not fixed. If you are wanting to have multi-columns (like in my example) then you will need to use a nested grid.

Unfortunately for me it is not just like adding other elements. i edited my previous post with a description. Thanks

****EDIT**** I got it to behave by leaving the text elements in the grid, which prevented the grid from collapsing. Once I was done I deleted the text elements and everything stayed in place. Thanks for your help!

Without seeing your project I can't say. However, the form elements DO and WILL be inserted just like your text objects underneath each other. There must be a reason why it is not working on yours.
