Uploading only changed files

Post by alan_sh »

Pablo,

When I upload, I have two destinations - my local NAS drive (has PHP support) and LCN - my web host. When I change something, the idea is to upload to my local drive, test things out and, if OK, upload to LCN.

However, if I only select "changed files" to upload (publish files of modified objects only), that's fine for my local upload, but when I come to upload to LCN, there is nothing to upload as (I think) WWB has reset the modified tags.

Is my thinking correct? Am I doing it right? If I know what the issue is, I can allow for it (always do a full upload to LCN), but if there is something I've missed, can you let me know?

Cheers

The 'modified' flag will be reset after publishing the page.
Normally users only publishing to one location.

OK thanks. At least I know.

Maybe I'm strange in that I publish to two locations to test out php functions, but I bet I'm not the only one :D

Iis it worth my asking for a mod in the suggestions area to make a modified flag for each publishable location?

cheers

I'm afraid that will require a major redesign of the application.
The modified flag is saved per object/page, not for a publish location.

But maybe instead of publishing, you can preview to the NAS location?
You can set the preview location in Tools->Options->Files & Folders

Will the preview work with PHP files? You mentioned before that you change things around for a preview on the assumption that it's a local hard disk.

Have you tried using File > Export to HTML to the NAS
and normal Publish files of modified objects only to your web host?

if you do not enable 'remove PHP code during preview' then the PHP code will not be removed.
Of course, you will need to preview the site via a server in that case.

Thanks - yes, I do that - upload to my W drive (which points to my web files) and then preview using a browser pointing to the site URL.

I haven't tried export to HTML - I'll look into it.

Having said that, it doesn't take that long to do a full upload anyway (about a minute).
