Facebook plugin

Post by brynj »

Is it possible and Is there a free way to display a facebook page (I am Admin) on a webpage within WYSIWYG.

I want to display the actual page rather than just a link - it is a public page.

I have tried to use Meta's Page Plugin but it doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't generate any code - it appears I am not the only one!

I also tried to add an 'Inline Frame' and entered the url of the facebook page but nothing is displayed.

Thanks

FB won't allow itself to be embedded in another page. I get this message when I try:
To protect your security, www.facebook.com will not allow Firefox to display the page if another site has embedded it. To see this page, you need to open it in a new window.

Have you looked at the Facebook scripts in MISCELLANANOUS > Ready-to-Use-Javascripts > Facebook Page Plugin

No - i did a search without any results but i guess it wouldn't in there. I will have a look later. Based on Alans post it doesn't sound too hopeful. Thanks though.

Well you are free to test yourself but do you think Pablo would add the scripts if they didn't work. Also note that the scripts need to be published first as they won't run locally in preview this is a restriction of FB and not of the software.

FYI - Tried it but doesn't show anything.

If you are convinced this works then it will be interesting in Pablo's thoughts when he comments.

Personally I would think it did work when it was made but due to Facebook changes it doesn't any longer!

The Facebook scripts still work for me.
Maybe your browser blocks them?

Thanks Pablo good to know that you have confirmed that they are working what I said about the scripts
FYI - Tried it but doesn't show anything
The following may explain why it not rendering (show) for you

On February 10, the plugins will gracefully degrade by rendering as a 0x0 pixel (invisible element)

So can i just confirm, you simply added the url to the facebook page within the script, published the page and it worked - yes?
No further steps ?

I just get a blank section. What settings are you refering to in the browser ? I am using Firefox on Windows 11 and Safari on iPad.

Thanks

The link seems to just refer to like & comment buttons, as far as i can see there is no mention of not displaying the actual facebook page unless i have missed it. In the same vein, if Pablo says it works for him presumably it should work for others.
I will try again tomorrow. There is only one setting to add, the url, and a few optional selections so hard to see as Pablo says it might be outside influences causing the issue i.e. browser but no idea where to start with that.

I created a one page site with an HTLM box in - put the url in and then did a preview in Firefox.

Facebook Page Plug-In

Hi - Tried again this morning without success.

What I did notice (that I missed yesterday) that while it does not show the actual page as i expected, it actually produces a text line showing the facebook page URL which is a link to the page. I missed this yesterday as it in with other text on the page. So it is doing something in that respect.

Out of curiosity I also tried the FB Like Button & FB Comment Button in the 'Ready to use Java Scripts' without any success - but based on the link Baconfries posted maybe that's not so surprising.

Why don't you send a link to your wbs file for Pablo to have a look? At least you would know if it works for him and if so it must be something on your computer or as Pablo has suggested your browser.

A demo project is not useful. It's just a matter of dropping the script on the page.

Step 1
Add a Ready-to-use-JavaScript to the page

Step 2
Select 'Facebook Page Plugin'. Keep all default settings

Step 3
Preview in browser.

This should work in any browser.
Note that this is a standard Facebook script. Not WWB specific code.

Pablo now I am not saying that this is the issue or anything to do with the Ready-to-use-JavaScript but from reading if the url to Facebook is pointing to a group then it may be the issue with rendering it in the page using the mentioned. If I am correct the following is the url in question.
https://facebook.com/groups/walkeastnorfolk

This is what ChatGPT says about it based on the Facebook documentation:

The Facebook Page plugin only supports URLs that point to a Facebook Page.
This URL works:
https://www.facebook.com/wysiwygwb

It links to a public Facebook Page, which is the type of content the plugin is designed to display.

This URL does not work:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/walkeastnorfolk

It links to a Facebook Group. Facebook Groups use a different structure and are not supported by the Page plugin, even when the group is public.

To get around this you should use one of the following widgets
