Fav Icon not showing - found a solution that worked for me.

I have created a 16x16 icon which is named favicon.ico - added to the page properties but nothing shows when saving bookmark in firefox.

favicon.ico is in the root directory on server.

Anything else I should be doing ?

How did you create the favicon/image? When I test in Chrome/Firefox all I see is a small white square is this what you want?

Interesting - no that's not what it should be. I created the favicon online but something obviously not right.

That's got it - I used a different online website to create it and now it works

Another hitch ..... while its working under 'Windows' its not working on Apple devices - no icon showing ?

Interestingly i dont get an icon on my apple devices for WYSIWYG forum website either - just a grey square with a ‘W’ in it (which is what i get for my website as well). I have icons for all my other bookmarks. I am sure i used too so wondering if its related to a recent update ?

The Icons were provided by a website for Apple icons

Googling 'set (png) icons for Apple browsers. ' does not return anything

One site suggested adding
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="apple_152x152.png"> between Head tag - - - didn't work.

Googling ‘safari bookmark issue’ seems to suggest there are problems displaying some icons. Funny thing is, its only WYSIWYG icons that are not displaying for me. Could someone try adding my website as a bookmark on their apple device and see if they get a proper icon - just to rule out an issue with my ipad/iphone - i’m using ios 26.5. www.walkeastnorfolk.com.

Page Properties-->Icons-->Apple Touch Icons here you add the icons from the location on your PC/Laptop Note they must be .png not ico you are also required different sizes 152x152 (iPad), 167x167(iPad retina) etc and the rest will be done by the software ie the html required will be inserted in the correct position

But isn’t that what i have already done in the image i posted higher up this thread ?

The icons I was provided with are smaller than the WYSIWYG recommended, except 152x152, but would that stop them working ?

Pablo implied there is another setting somewhere as presumably he saw i had already added those in page properties.

Note that WWB does not care which icons you use, it's up to the browser to use them or not.
WWB just generates the code.

Ah ok - i thought it was the bottom section that provided the Apple device icons.

I will add the other two top icons as well and hopefully that will resolve the problem.

Update - added 32 & 64 but still didn't work oh well guess its not going to happen.

I don't think this has anything to do with WWB.
These are standard HTML options, not specific to the software.

There a be something wrong with the image format you are using.

I agree with Pablo this hasn't anything to do with the software. When you add the image(s) then all WWB does is generate the required html for it to render the image.
I read that you received the images from someone is that correct? if so they may not be valid format and could explain why they don't show

There are several online websites that allow you to upload an image and it creates icons in .png or .ico and also specifically for Apple use.

I have tried two of these websites and the result is the same - no show.

As previously mentioned, there seems quite a few posts in google suggesting it is Safari that is to blame but strange that, for me at least, it seems to be WYSIWYG sites that don’t show - i have many bookmarks in ipad Safari and they all show icons. May be pure fluke of course, it does happen.

I did download Firefox on my ipad and in fairness the icon did show in that, so it appears the icons are good. I don’t think there is anything else to be done and to just put it down to Safari.

As i said, ‘for me’ it was true. Interestingly the main link you privided does show an icon but the ‘Forum’ link (which is the one i already have bookmarked) does not, nor dies my site, hence my previous comment. Any thoughts as to why the main site works but not the forum ?

If the forum site had worked then i would automatically assumed it was my settings that were incorrect - but as it doesn’t (on my device) my assumption was logical.

I was hoping someone could bookmark my site in Safari and confirm the icon worked for them, i could forget it then and assume it was just my device.

This forum was not created with WWB. So, it is not correct to assume the problem is related to WWB based on that.

I have read that a solution maybe to clear everything in Safari, cache, history etc - but thats a sledge hammer to crack a nut approach, just for a couple of missing icons.

This forum was not created with WWB. So, it is not correct to assume the problem is related to WWB based on that.

However, the fav icon seems to work correct for this forum.

Ah ok. As its a wysiwyg url i naturally assumed icons would have been set in wysiwyg.

Do you have an Apple device you can bookmark my site in Safari and see if you get an icon ?

Well I now have icons on apple device in Safari.

I read many articles to try and get to the bottom of this and the one that solved it for me was ....

The icon(s) needed to be named specifically ..... apple-touch-icon-(i added size after this).png

I now have icons in Safari on ipad & iphone - absolutely no idea why - other than the fact the website said this is what apple devices or Safari looks for, true or not I don't know but as i said - it worked for me.

For me at least the issue is solved and may help anyone who finds a similar issue.
