Unable to add proportional full sized background videos to layers in WB16

Hi there,

Is there any extension (third-party or WB) that can add proportional full sized background videos to play within full-width layers? The third-party extension that I was using supports this feature - to add a video that auto plays on my websites. I had no problem adding video files this way until I updated to WB16. The old extension still works on WB14 & WB15 though. I have reinstalled the extension to WB16 but it still does not play videos within a layer. The HTML5 Video feature does not help either. It lacks features and functionality.

Please, any advice is welcome as I am desperate. Alternatively, I will have to switch back to WB15 as adding video files is an important part of my website design.

Hi Kevin. Note that no browser supports "auto playing" a video with sound. If this is the issue you must mute the sound from start.

No, I don't need sound, just the video. Done heaps of these before. Just that with WB16 my third-party extension has become obsolete.

All extensions should work the same as in previous versions.

Ok, let me try to re-frame my question.

Is there any way I can add a video to fill an entire layer and play in a loop WB16? Like i have done here: http://chandleragribusiness.com.au/

What do you mean the third party extension is obsolete? Have you contacted the developer [rz I believe] to ask about it being obsolete or not?

The built-in video background option in layers should work.
However, it is important that the video does not have audio otherwise the browser will disable autoplay.

Note that nothing has changed in WWB that prevents this from working. So, if it previously worked then it should work the same.

I have contacted the developer (yes rz) but still no reply. A bit frustrated with them too.

Can you explain what exactly does not work?
Is there an error in the browser?
Maybe there is a conflict with other elements on the page?
Do you have an example of a page that does not work?

Hi Pablo,
The built-in video background option in layers does work but only by adding a link from YouTube or similar channel. It does not have the option to simply add a video file to upload. BTW; the video file does not have any audio on it.

I have been struggling with this the whole morning. I even imported a page from WWB15 into WWB16 which have the same background video extension nestled inside a layer, and the extension stop working. I have done all known troubleshooting and investigation to no avail.

It works on WWB12,14 and 15 just not on WWB16. When previewed, it just shows up as a blank layer with no video. No error massage either. I’ll upload a page and also email u the test project files when I get back to the studio in the morning.

Can you please give me the URL of a working page and a non-working page so I can see the difference?

Note that the built-in background video option also supports mp4 via an absolute URL.

I use this [rz] extension in 2 sites that I have migrated to WWB16. Both works perfect.

After much investigation on the issue with regards to the background video extension not working inside a layer, I found the issue: the problem lies when I switch the alignment in the layer from ‘Left’ to ‘Centre’ then the video stops working. It works perfectly when the layer alignment is set at ‘Centre’

I have emailed you the project files (including screenshots) - for your further review and advice on a possible fix.

This has nothing to do with WB16.
If you change the alignment of the layer the this will change the structure of the HTML code.
I think you will have to set the target of the extension to 'Layer1'.

Only use it in setting: Target = Auto (Not inside any object) Full video background.
