Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Hi,
Having sorted a couple of issues the other day, I decided to give my website an overhaul, without doing anything too drastic, but just trying to make it a bit more user-friendly, both for PCs, and Mobiles.
I'm on the last page - a php one - and when I look at the default page size setting in preview, I see all the items which belong to the responsive site for mobiles, all neatly tucked away, when I view in Render hidden objects visible, so that, in either format, I don't have unwanted blank sections after each page is scrolled through.
This was happening with the default size, and when I went to look to see what was causing it, I noticed a single vertical line of what look like mainly brackets! I've tried different views, and checking which object is visible in which size-setting, but I can't see what is producing the line, and how to get rid of it. It's not showing in preview, but it's forcing the page down, after the content has finished.
I had taken a screen shot, but unfortunately couldn't work out how to attach it, given that it's only on my desktop.
Hopefully you'll know the problem immediately.
Many thanks!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Hi,
That was why I'd wanted to attach a screenshot of the page to my earlier post, but wasn't aware of how to do this, as the screenshot image is currently on my desktop.
The page itself isn't published at the moment, because I've left my previous website on my server, and didn't want to upload the revised version until I'd checked everything was working at the local level first.
If there was a straightford (for me!) way of getting the screenshot sent, at least people could know, as you rightly say, what the line looks like!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
To the best of my knowledge I've uploaded a JPEG of the appropriate screenshot, which it said was ,successfully uploaded. The line I refer to is about midway, and descends beyond the web page like this: (
)
(
)
(. etc
Hope this helps in identifying it.

When using the likes of one of the free public file (image) sharing sites, once uploaded a url will be generated, it is this url you share. AIteratively you can upload the image to your own host / server and provide a url to it.. It is also possible to simply share the project .wbs file. See the following url.

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
I'm sorry that I didn't quite understand the way to send the image! I hope this is better:
<a href="https://ibb.co/JpKcwrY"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/ZgVfpcQ/Webshot.jpg" alt="Webshot" border="0"></a>
This is taken on my PC, and it's the almost central vertical line that's the issue.
When I viewed it on my laptop, it wasn't there!
To the best of my ability, I compared every setting between laptop and PC, and cannot that anything has been accidentally changed!
Hopefully, you'll know!
Many thanks!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Hi,
I taken a few more screenshots hopefully to answer your questions:
1. Here is the default size as I see it when I work on the page:

The line (?) is there running down the centre. In objects I can't find anything that either relates to the later, or can select it to make it visible or not
2, Here is the bottom of the same page, with the line (?) descending down beyond the page

3. Here is the 320px view as I work at it on the page. The line (?) is not there

4. Here is the bottom of the default page seen through my local browser. In the past, I used to get problems with excessive amounts of blank space, but had learnt how to overcome this. But this line (?) doesn't appear to be 'selectable', and so I can't delete it, or hide it when appropriate.

I hope this might give you a little more to go on! I see, from the FB link that you are in Hamburg. My longest-standing friends live just south of Bremen! My great-grandfather was German, and I'd just love to swap my useless British passport for anything! German, in the good old days!

@Wolksby I have made it easier to view the images by setting them as shown in your post.
Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Hi,
In answer:
When I try to select, find, move - or in fact do anything with the line, I just can find any way to select it the first place:
I'm referring to what looks something like this, roughly centre screen:
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
l
Thanks, meanwhile for making my images 'show' - there's always so much to learn!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Here is another webshot:
This is the offending local page on my PC in default size.
I have stripped everything away from it that should be seen in defauly position, leaving just the shaded out objectives which belong to the 320px size.
The line is there clearly. I tried zooming into it, and it doesn't really look line a line as such, just similar small random shapes on top of each other.
It's getting really frustrating!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Again
Friend please or contact to me to solve that, or share project not need any image from your project, just must to see what you done. and how, your answers are not very precise, the pictures are so small that I could see them.
If you are afraid that someone will take the project out, believe me, no one will, no one here is interested in other people's projects, also the way you work is from versions from many years ago.
I suggest the share project will be solved in less than 2.22 seconds.
Whether from me or Bacon or Pablo or some other user, you can get an answer in less than 2 minutes, or like this to guess what it could be based on a bad picture for the next few hours
That is my suggestion for me looks like Ruler guide but i can not be 100% shure

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared - solved!
Hi All,
Thank you all for you many offers of help which, as still a relative novice, I value so very much.
I eventually discovered what the 'line' was, by a process of deduction and elimination, like Sherlock Holmes!
I cloned the page, and, one by one, stripped away every single object, as I thought I'd done before. By the time I got a fair way in, I saw that the 'line' was, infact, a text box, that somehow had become squashed down so that it could accommodate only one letter at a time! I stretched it back out, and found that it had gone astray when making the 320px version. I hadn't needed to make it visible, by when I did, I could see what had happened, and, in fact, once stretched out, I was able to put it back where it should have been!
Both default and 320px views are not back to normal, and everything seems fine!
Thank you so much! I'm not a young person, and don't like to be beaten without a good try, and find that logic often helps.
Even though I know that you all would have picked up on this, in a second or so, had I sent the whole project over - and which would certainly have been my next step - but I've good degree of satisfaction having essentially sorted it out myself!
Thank you all again - it's a great service you all supply, and I'm most grateful to you.
Thanks!

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
great if you found a mistake, considering that i heard for your name maybe I created some design, I can't remember if it was a contest at some design competition, or I created it for fun maybe 3 4 years ago. But it would be a shame not to see some of my ideas then, I still think there was some competition for a design solution, maybe I'm wrong
here my idea before maybe 3 4 years

Re: Unexpected 'line' has appeared
Hi Pajadt,
Many thanks for your kind interest,
I doubt that I would ever have been involved in anything to do with web design! I'm a musician, and journalist, and who is intrigued by computers. But I know nothing about design, nor code etc, which is why Pablo's software is perfect for me.
I do, though, have one query, which now seems to be the only little glitch, and not related to the previous problem.
On every page of my website, I display my name at the top using a Banner.
All I have done here is to change the colour of the text every time the Banner occurs. It's merely gone from a light blue, to a darker shade, which is the exact blue on the EU flag.
This has changed on every occasion - except on the final Contacts page, which was where the ;line' problem happened.
Here, despite keep altering the colour - and when previewing locally, the blue is the correct darker shade.
BUT, online it stubbornly remains as light blue, despite refreshing the page.
It can't be anything major, but, of course, it spoils things.
I know you only need to see the Contacts page, but here is a link to the full website. The Contacts page is the final page.
Many thanks!

Hi,
Many thanks for confirming the exact shades of blue and yellow in the EU flag.
I was using these.
The issue with the one page where the old text colour stubbornl remained is now solved, thanks.
I had been relying on just clicking the Refresh button, but this kept missing this single instance.
I completely cleared my Chrome cacher, and it's all looking as it should now.
Many thanks!
