Technical Support Required

Post by Xircom »

Hello Support

I'm new to this software and web design. I'm a Network Engineer / Server TCPIP etc.. I thought WYSIWYG (What you See is What you Get) by the name and title of the software I should be able to take template and loaded, change then name on the front and then post it up via FTP, so why doe sit not work? if I publish it local Disk D:\WEBDesign it looks fine if I post ti up to my host it doer snot work at all ; am I missing some thing?

Do I need to lear HTML ? if that the case then I think it easy for me to pay a web design and ask you guys for a refund as you software doe snot work, it doe snot do what you say.

Hello Xircom,

Welcome, but before you blame the software for not working correctly we need a bit more info.

1. 99% the time if something isn't working correctly it's usually due to user error versus the software.
2. Do you have a link to the page you uploaded so we can see what is wrong? It is always beneficial to provide a link to the page that is not working so we can see the problem otherwise we are guessing. Saying a published page doesnt work correctly tells us nothing.
3. If the page previews correctly and looks correct when you publish to local disk, then it means something is wrong with what is uploaded to the server. Did you upload all the files? Could there be a server issue?
4. Do you need to learn HTML? No. But if you are open to learning along the way it always helps.
5. Please be specific on what is not working, where to look on the page, etc.

I see the web site is up and running (nice one, by the way) so must have sorted it out. Welcome to the forums.

Do I need to lear HTML ?
No there is no need. With that being said I would recommend that you don't make changes in the programs settings if you are unsure what they do as it may cause you issues.
On viewing the source you have a index.js file on your server instead of a index.html or index.php. This should not be there and indicates a configuration issue on the server. It could also be you have enabled 'generate external JS file in Tools->Options->HTML.
Either change the server configuration or try disabling 'generate external JS file' in Tools->Options->HTML and see if that helps.

Your website is here:
http://www.xircomsystems.co.uk/index.html

However, as mentioned by BaconFries, there is an error in the configuration. The website uses 'index.js' as the landing page.

Thanks for the feed back, it would seem that after 30 years in IT Support I still have much to learn. it was setting in the .htaccess that was the issue, as the website builder created the files index.css and index.html and the host was picking the index.css first as it's alphabetically the first in line, so changed that file to direct it to index.html first. Sorry for jumping the gun. Yes I think it time for this old dinosaur to learn new tricks and maybe understand how ? HTML and JAVA interact.
