Autostart Background Video

Post by Smee »

Tried the Vimeo option for a full page video background, it is no longer allowing autostart, the visitor must click play to see the video. Kinda screws up the effect.

Created my own small background html video, and set it to autostart. It won't. Figured it was because I was trying offline, so uploaded the page, still won't autostart.

What do I need to do to make the video autostart? It works fine, video plays as it is supposed to, but you have to hit the play button FIRST.

Also, why can I no longer place an "Enter Here" button on top?

Thanks!

BTW, I've done this in the past and it worked . . . and the old site still does where I"ve used it before.

Many of today's browsers (to name but one Chrome) block 'auto play' when 'audio' is detected. The same applies to devices such as Android / iPad / iPhone as they do not support 'auto play' as it is deemed annoying for visitors, it uses more bandwidth, and it can also affect battery life of the device.
You can set the audio to 'mute' as this usually allows the browser to play the video due to 'audio' not being detected, or remove the 'audio' from the video itself. Please note this had nothing to do with WWB.

I created a video with no audio . . . thought that would be sufficient for the browser to allow it to run.

Oh well, guess it doesn't matter. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction as it fixes my problem.

Be well.
