How to create a "On this Day" calendar

Hello, It's been some time since I last coded.... So the brain is more than fuzzy and I am sure things have change in the last year or so.

I am creating a website and one of the spots on this site will have a "On this day" type area. I want it to display information that I would keep in a list or a database that has occured on a specific date. When that date comes up, the information would display in the text box. Are there any easy ways to accomplish this, than what I remember from a few years ago?

Or that wysiwyg provides a simpler process to accomplish the task?

There is no standard solution for this, because this is very specific. This will require a custom script.
