global replace not working

Post by queenidog »

When I activate Global Replace, after a few seconds I get a notice that web builder is "not responding". I wait and wait but it never recovers and I have to close the program (x) or kill the process with task manager.

I have webbuilder 15.0.4 64 bit. This is the first time I try to use Global Replace. In the last 2 weeks I've been working every day on my web pages with no issue whatsoever, except this one.

There are no known issues with the Global Replace tool.
Do you have the same problem in a new projects or is it just a specific project?
Can you share the project and describe exactly how to reproduce the problem?

This is "new" project. I say "new" because I renamed the project and saved it. It was something like MyNewWeb_04 and I changed it to NyNewWeb19 to reflect my newest edits.

I tried it again, three times, and I get the same result.

All I do is select Global Replace while on a page, the page hangs, then gives me the error. I waited 2 or more minutes but it did not come back. I had to "x" out of the program, answer "yes" to exit.

How do I attach files? (eg to post to this forum for perusal?)

I created a new project, with just the index page and little text. Saved it, opened it, tried Global Replace and it works.

So...something wrong with my project. In my quest to do stuff and learn all the intricacies and options that Web Builder has, I could have screwed something up along the way.

I'll experiment a bit.

thanks.

Well I still can't get Global Replace to work with my project. (New project with nothing in it, works)

So I read an HTML file which had big table of text in it from WebBuilder into Excel. There I could manipulate easily. Then I saved it back as an HTML file, but it would not open in WebBuilder (import file). I get a blank page but when I click in the page I get one of the cells with text in it but I can't read it. It's not a font color or page color issue because I tried changing those.

I get the same thing using MS Word.

Any ideas why this doesn't work? (I'm happy to use Excel or Word to do the editing).

WYSIWYG Web Builder is not an HTML editor. It is not possible to import/edit HTML tables. The import option is only meant for importing text and images.
To be able to help you with the global replace problem, I need a copy of the project file and a description of how to reproduce the problem.

I found a workaround...
I create a new project, then import the pages that I want to use GR on. I then change the text from black to white, and change page background. That's all I have to do here.
Then I import into MY project, create a table and then move each text element (the way it was created originally) into a cell. A little tedious but I think necessary to get two columns of text (many rows) into the table.
It works, so I'm okay with doing it this way.
