to what extent can you adjust templates

If i would download one of the templates to what extend can you adjust a template. For example, is it possible to change a default header into a docking header, ad pages and ad a topic to a menu? In what extent can you change the layout to make it your own?

The only difference between a template and a regular projexct is that in a template the images are included in the file.
So, a template is just like a regular project, you can adjust everything.
