Video Player: Auto-Play = doesn't work + More Video related issues

Post by Dan »

Not sure what am I doing wrong...

- I've tried following the documents using a VIDEO inside the Layer Grid
When I SAVE >> F5 it works but I can't expand the size of the video, it doesn't scale it by default.

EDIT:
I found out "Column height: 100 hv" it's waaay too large but I'll try other options, maybe manually padding will do the job.
It would be easier if I could drag and drop the handles of the Layer Grid a specific size but I guess that's not how it works.
or if the VIDEO has the "COVER" option similar when choosing an IMAGE.

---

- I dragged the default Video Player inside the Layer Grid, Made sure AUTO-PLAY and LOOP are checked,
When I SAVE >> F5 it shows in all browsers but not Auto-Play...

- I tried with: "Show Controls" just to make sure, it plays only when I press PLAY + LOOP works fine,
but Auto-Play still doesn't work with or without controls.

- I prefer use the HERO SECTION (if that's the term) to played automatically on loop, and then I want to place above it IMAGE + TEXT as I wish.
so the goal is to make it as a background video, simple as that.
But I'm not sure how to expand the Layer Grid to full video size, I tried manually it ignores the numbers I guess because it works based on what's inside, and yet I have no clue how to show the full video size inside it.

--

I've attached a project file, nothing special, (video is MP4, low quality to keep it small for the test).
You will notice be 3 things:
2 Layer Grids and 1 independent video player (no Grid Layout), I wanted to compare and see which case works on the same page.
On the TOP Layout Grid I used a JavaScript Text because any other Text tool wasn't easy to change colors and font size, so I didn't find a simple one to use yet.

Based on that project file:
1️⃣ - Hopefully anyone can guide me with what extra settings I forgot to make auto-play working consider it's checked? 🤔
2️⃣ - Also, please explain how do I make change the size of the BACKGROUND VIDEO inside the Layer Grid to my preferred choice?

Thanks ahead 🙏

Hi Dan, I can give you answer to why the autoplay doesn't work (1): Most webbrowsers doesn't support autoplay when there's sound in the videofile. Try to mute or erase the sound...
I tried to download the file but I doesn't have Limewire account so up to others that can do it.

Cheers

There is no extra setting you have missed or whether you have controls or not auto-play is disabled by the browser.
There is a restriction on using "Autoplay" and it is implemented by the browser(s) note this is not related to the software in anyway.
🔐 Browser autoplay rules
Modern browsers require:
- Video must be muted to autoplay
- User must have interacted with the page at least once (sometimes required on iOS)
- Autoplay with sound is blocked everywhere

"Google began blocking automatic video and audio playback by default in April 2018 with the release of Chrome 66. This policy was implemented to stop disruptive audio from playing automatically on websites, with a focus on improving user experience, reducing data consumption, and saving battery life.
Here are the key details of the policy rollout:

April 2018 (Chrome 66): The autoplay policy officially launched, blocking audio and video from playing automatically unless the video was muted or the user had previously shown interest in the site.
December 2018 (Chrome 71): The restriction was extended to include the Web Audio API, which affected web-based games, some WebRTC applications, and other complex audio, after being delayed from an earlier date.
Conditions for Allowed Autoplay: Under this policy, auto-playing audio is generally only allowed if:
The media is muted or has no audio track.

The user interacts with the page (click, tap, etc.).
On desktop, the user has a high "Media Engagement Index" (MEI), meaning they frequently listen to media on that site.
Google also implemented an ad-blocking feature in February 2018 to stop ads with auto-playing audio, which served as a precursor to the broader 2018 autoplay policy."

Personally and I know others find it annoying when you visit a site and either there is audio or video playing in your face I will just leave. This is where I should have control to listen and control it from the first visit. Just my two cents..

I agree 100% with this sentiment. Nothing will drive me away from a site faster than unsolicited audio.

Thanks! for the Auto-Play it's mostly for the "HERO SECTION" it doesn't need audio anyway.
BTW - No need to login you can download by clicking the download all button, but you pretty much helped already 👍

Consider the Video doesn't have any audio I just did MUTE and it does play in the Default Video Player! ✅

Unfortunately,
I noticed that it does not work with (same video) with the PLYR video player which I may also need.
Maybe it needs another settings? (I tried mute, and anything else... still shows only the first frame)

I may get my workaround via the Default Video Player Afterall,
but I wondered why PLYR doesn't auto-play even with the same exact video that the Default Player play with the Mute.

You will need to remove the audio if you want it to auto play.
This has nothing to do with WWB, it's standard (and logical) browser behavior.

It doesn't auto-play because the browser detects that it is a video/audio file and disables the playback unless the audio(sound) is removed or set to mute please see the following example from plyr Note this is not in anyway related to the software but how browsers work.
Please also note that the plyr extension is provided "free" and "AS IS" with no support.
