Adding an SMS link.

Currently, on my website's contacts page, I've successfully set up. and used the 'Send Email' link, which, when a visitor clicks on the selected icon, generates an email to me, with the subject of 'General Enquiry', which works well, and always gives me the nod that it has come to me via my website.

I believe I can also set up something similar so that a visitor could send an SMS text message direct to be mobile. I've tried to set it up following the email pattern - using the SMS link of course - but it doesn't appear to work online. Looking at the example number shown in the help, it would appear to be 10 digits with a + in front, so I have attempted to lay mine out similarly: +7976547127. Should I instead not use the +, but replace it with 0, which is the format I use in the UK: 07976547127 - or should I give it a full international number (from the UK) - +44 7976 547127

It's not crucial, but would be nice to have up and running it I can.

Many thanks!

I do not have any experience with SMS myself, so I cannot gice you any useful advise about this.
However, it's a standard HTML feature so if the browser supports it then it should work.

Hi Wolksby,

I use the SMS format as a full international format: i.e +447976547127 (without any spaces) and works for me.
On a mobile phone ask to me if I want to open the link with my messages app.

I hope this can help you!
Cheers!

It won't work if they open the link on a desktop machine - only a mobile.

Hi Wolksby
usually the sms wont work on a desktop as Alan has pointed out as its not a phone to dial the link, however you can also get sms software for the desktop so that when a sms link is clicked it will work on the desktop however not everyone viewing the site will have that option.
Then best thing to do is hide the sms link on the desktop version and only make it available on the smaller viewpoints that the phones use and then its no issue.
