Setting Tabs

As far as I can tell, it is not possible to set tabs. For example, I may want a tab at .9" and a second one at 1.6". Spacing over to the next column creates an uneven 2nd column (assuming proportional font). My work around was to create 3 text boxes, side by side at the proper places, but it adds a lot of labor to what will be hundreds of pages. It is inconceivable to me that this feature is missing, but I can't find it. Am I right? Can't be done?

HTML does not support tabs.
But you can use a table to create columns.

I had already tried tables. They would not accept my style which controlled the font size. I even checked properties under Table Layout. It said it was using my style, but it doesn't. I can alter the font size, cell by cell. Too much trouble. Finally I created side by side text boxes. Not a perfect solution, but workable.
