Troubleshooting grid and php forms

Okay, a few things.

1. I can't seem to drag and drop my form into a layout grid, is that normal? What are the limitations of layout grids?

2. I tried using the form builder, the form wizard, I tried adjusting the mail using mailto:, php, tried using smtp, nothing seems to work. There is a brief blip of a white page with text before going to the error page and I'm left not know what happened. Now, I'm a rank beginner with no html or php experience, so I'm relying heavily on the intuitiveness of the software, but I'm at a loss.
A. Can someone please simplify what I should be looking for in making a form?
B. Where can I find what the error of the message was so I can continue digging?
C. I have a lot of "setting" options in my e-mail server, but when it comes to doing this for a client, I'd like to know what exactly I should be looking for to be able to get that info from them and then implement that on their site.

Thanks for the help.

1. A form is a fixed/absolute container so it cannot be part of a layout grid. However, a layout itself can be configured as a form.

2. All features work, if there were any known issues then they would have already been fixed.
However, the settings depends on what your web host supports. I would start with basic PHP mail. If that does not work, then contact your host and ask then why emails are not sent. They may advise you what settings should be used instead.
