*** SOLVED *** New uploads not showing when published

Post by Brian Lambert »

Dear All
I upgraded my version to 17.4.1 a couple or so days ago and today I find that any newly added items to my web site are not being published (or at least are not viewable when published).
All newly added Layout Grids and text within the grid and the associated "Go To" drop-down links to that new grid are not showing? The Object Manager has checks in the layout grid and all text boxes inside that grid and all other check boxes for that grid are blank.
While uploading a new uploading view is displayed showing a huge amount of information (see image below).
The Preview page works correctly but after uploading the "View Published Website" link fails to show the newly added items nor do they show in several web browsers I have - Chrome, Firefox and Opera.

Web site is... https://www.favershammrc.org.uk/Blog_2022.html

Any guidance you can offer as to why the files are not being published or showing would be most helpful
Please remember I'm a web 'knob head' and much technical speak is not understood!
Thanks for your anticipated assistance

Re: New uploads not showing when published

Post by Pablo »

The publish log is not very clear. it does not show the full messages.
However, I do not think this is related to the update, otherwise many other users would have the same problem.

In most cases, publish problems are either related to the server sided issues or an incorrect configuration.

If you need further assistance then please include the full publish log and an overview of your configuration.

Then simply paste it into the next reply you make so it can be read and a answer given. Please do not include any login details such as username/password etc

Then can you try pasting it into notepad and save as a text file (.txt) name it as mylog.txt. Upload to your server and share by providing a link to download.

Did you publish all files or choose the option for publishing only changed files when publishing within WWB? Sometimes you have to publish all files to get some types of files uploaded.

This may be a server related issue:
replyLineQP: 550 Requested action not taken. File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no = access).
Maybe the file name is not accepted or maybe the server space is full?

Note that it is very difficult to help you with this limited amount of information.
To be able to help you. I need to know all exact settings and the full log.

It may be useful to first try to upload a simple page and see if that works.

Also, it looks like you are using standard FTP? Maybe your web-host has upgraded to Secure FTP?

Re: New uploads not showing when published

Hi

So this is where I'm at, at this time...
I can publish the page to My Computer and everything that's new or altered shows correctly.
I publish to my hosting company and that goes through OK but no alterations or updates show.
I have tried to send the log file to the forum but its far too large to place on the forum. So I submitted an extract.
Space on my server is around about 8% used (92% spare).
File name is the same - double, no treble checked, that one.
"Limited information"... What can I provide (in simple terms please)
I have uploaded easily in the past and everything was OK until the latest upgrade was installed. Is there anything in this that could alter how uploads are undertaken? Or has it been able to alter the configuration somehow?
From the "Publish Web Site"/"Edit Publish Location" options, I have tried "Local" that works as above. Standard FTP (this was always used previously) seems to upload ok. FTP with TLS/SLL (Port 990) and that also uploads. The remaining last two options both fail the "Test" option.
Not at all sure where to go or what to do now??

What can I provide (in simple terms please)
I need the full publish log of the most recent session.
Please do not edit the filenames in the log otherwise I cannot see what is uploaded.
I have uploaded easily in the past and everything was OK until the latest upgrade was installed.
No changes have been made to this functionality and no one else has reported this issue so it is unlikely related to the update.
Is there anything in this that could alter how uploads are undertaken?
- your firewall or antivirus may have been updated
- the web host may have changed something
- or there may be a (temporary) issue in the server side

Thanks for the log file.
I think the problem is server related.

Are you sure the settings have not changed?
Can you upload files to the server with another tool (FileZilla) using the same settings?

Did you set the remote folder well?
Remote folder, specifies the folder (also called the root) on the FTP server where the HTML files will be uploaded to.
Common remote folders locations are:
/www
/public_html
/html
/
Unfortunately this value is different for each webhost, so consult your webhost's documentation for more details!

If your webhost changes something, the software does not know about it and you may be bumping into a wall that you can only avoid by checking and inserting the right values.

Let's dig a little:

In Web Builder, if you click on the menu File > Publish... > What is set at Folder there? Can you confirm with your web host that this is the right value? (You can close that window by clicking Cancel by the way)

Hi

I checked the File > Publish > Folder and all it shows is a back slash / This has always been the way its been and is identical to my other web site that is also hosted by One.com and produced by wysiwygwebbuilder

I tried another upload after the above and it seemed to go through, but when I clicked the "View Published Website" tab this appeared?

This message has nothing to do with the software. It is a server related issue.

Did you also try to upload with a third party FTP tool and the (exact) same settings?

Hi
This afternoon I've been in contact with Tech Support at One.com my hosting company. They have looked at the web site and say as far as they are concerned there is nothing wrong with it!

I tried to locate the Blog_2022 file with FileZilla but no HTML files show?? You can see the files in the attached screen shot. The whole website is saved as FMRC_02 and all that shows is images (.JPG files)
So currently I'm unable to try the suggestions of direct FTP uploading!

Are we just looking at your local (PC harddrive) view? The idea is to see if you can connect to a server in this program you are now showing.

Hi
Yes I can access the server side files.. The screen shot below shows the server. Note that the last upload for Blog_22 was on 13-09-22 and that was before the Webbuilder update was installed. I'm wondering if the files are not being saved correctly on my local PC?
To aid this I have tried to save the web site to another file name and it saved ok, but still unable to send items to the www server. I have since deleted that temporary file.

Hi Pablo
I can't see the files on my local PC with FileZilla, all I can see are image files, an earlier screen shot shows this, see post timed 2:49. So no, I haven't been able to do as suggested.

The files do not exists on your local computer, you will need to publish the website first.

- publish the website to a local folder
- upload the files with FileZilla.

but first make sure you fix the invalid files names.

Can we be a bit methodical here?

1. Open the web site in WWB and save it to a local folder. Are all the files there OK? Use File Explorer to check
2. If they are, use Filezilla to open that folder. Can you still see all the files?
3. Assuming that is OK, use Filezilla to copy ALL the files (let it overwrite existing ones) to the correct place on your server. Does the web site look OK?
4. Assuming that works, put the same logon credentials into the WWB FTP upload area and try and publish ALL files. Did you get any errors in the log file?

If 1. doesn't work, then we have an issue with WWB.
If 2. doesn't work, then there's something wrong with Filezilla.
If 3. doesn't work, then you have server issues somewhere.
If 4 doesn't work, then there's something wrong with the logon credentials or the upload protocol.

Hi again
I have resolved the failure of FileZilla to show files. It had to be enabled to show all file types, which was originally checked not to show them! So have been able to upload the HTTP file directly to the web site and it shows, See https://www.favershammrc.org.uk/Blog_20 ... #September
So now the question is... Why isn't the files being uploaded from the normal means?

A further update...
Following the successful FTP upload via FileZilla and the site showing the correct September Blog entries. I went back to the normal way of uploading and added a test Text Box to the page with the words... "Testing 123 321" in it. Saved the file and then uploaded the page.
The alteration hasn't appeared and the upload has reverted back to the page which was sent some days ago. So it seems the new / alter text etc are not being saved by the software.
I'm beginning to loose the will now! I cant upload every new or altered page via FTP and FileZilla! All this has come about since I upgraded the software. Something went wrong during that upgrade. Sorry Pablo but it did! Can I go back to a former issue without loosing anything?

Re: New uploads not showing when published

I still doubt that this has anything to do with the update otherwise many other users would have the same problem. Nothing has changed in the software related to FTP.
Also, if you search the forum for similar issues then publish issues have always been related to either the server or the configuration. The conclusion is always: it was a server issue.
In most cases, when something suddenly stops working, it is because something was changed on the server side (even if the web host says they didn't).
A common example is that web host switch from standard FTP to Secure FTP.

This error in the log indicates a server related issue. This is a message generated by the server!
replyLineQP: 550 Requested action not taken. File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no = access).
Did you ask your web host what it means?

Are you sure the settings in FileZilla are the same as in WWB?
In the FileZilla screenshot it looks like you are connecting using TLS. while in WWB it looks like you are using standard FTP?

If you need further help then I need to know all your exact settings. So, I can reproduce the error on my computer and help find a solution for you.

To be able to help you, I need:
- the project file (wbs)
- FTP configuration
- most recent log

Thanks for sending the information.

Your FTP configuration is not correct.
The remote folder in the configuration should be
/customers/c/9/d/favershammrc.org.uk/httpd.www

Because that is the root of your website.

Well Im blowed!!! Will set my copy to that and see what happens.
The instructions from One.com when the site was set up was to leave the Remote folder as Blank hence just the / in that field. Its worked like that for over five years then suddenly failed this week.

Will let you know how it goes :D Thank you unreservedly. :D

Edit @ 16:45... Changed the Remote Folder to the full title and it works and to prove all was correct I added a new Layout Grid to the Blog 2022 page and called it October and placed in the top qick access box the October details and saved and uploaded and Bingo the new layout grid and its link show.

Hello Pablo I Cant see if my last reply posted.

What was the reason for the changes on files names? since I got Builder 18 im not able to re publish my files with out changing file names, this was never a problem in the last 5 years i have used WYSIWYG builders. I can not go back and change the filenames of over 5 thousand files published just to stay on time of changes for the webbuiulder.

What do you mean by this exactly? I don't think WB keeps you from re-publishing anything. It may warn you about the file names but it will still publish them as-is. WB18 checks for errors on the page and helps to alert you of them. Whether you decide to correct them or not is up to you.

The point about filenames shouldn't contain spaces, special characters, etc. is not new to WB18. This has always been the case.

You can disable the warning in Tools -> Options-> Publish -> Check for invalid filenames.

Note that this option is not new for version 18.
