Private area - password protected

Post by Brian Lambert »

Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search doesn't seem to reveal anything immediately.
On one of my web sites (using the latest update of 15.3.0) I would like if it is possible, to have a 'private page' (Call it Committee only page) that is accessed by a password - can be the same password for all users. So as the groups committee can see messages and possibly images posted that are not generally available to everyone else. Only I as the Admin can post to it, but it can be viewed by those with the password.
I can of course add a new page, but is there a way of making that page viewed only by these with a password? If so, How??
I need to be lead my the hand if it is possible - sorry!

You can do it outside of WYSIWYG as long as your server supports .htaccess.

Start here https://www.whoishostingthis.com/resour ... h-htaccess

Alternatively, for a single page protect, read the help. Search for "password" and I think it's the second item returned.
[One part of the help says
"Note: The Single Page Protect was designed to used separately from the other login tools. It does not use a database and has no administrator or users. It's a standalone object. This object just protects a single page with a password. "

I think that's what you wanted.

I believe you can do this using the extensions in the login section in toolbox protect page extension to make the page private and then the login and logout and edit profile etc for login in and out etc.

Hi
Many thanks for the suggestions, but I'm wondering if what I'm after trying to do has not been made clear by myself fully and even if the feature I'm looking for is available? However you may have given me the correct info but I can't immediately grasp what is being given - See last paragraph!
I think Alan SH post #3 has the right idea, but I can't see where I drag the item from that is mentioned??

My web site is available for anyone to view. Along the top is the usual Navigation bar offering the viewer click on sections to various pages of the web site. I was hoping I could add a new page and a new link in the Navigation bar that says something like "Members area" or similar. When this Navigation bar link is clicked on it takes all who use that link to a Members Area Log In page, where a Password has to be entered. Only once the correct password is entered and then clicking on a 'Submit Button' would (assuming the correct password used) the viewer be taken to the normally hidden special page.
If the wrong password is entered it will redirect the viewer to a message stating something like... "You do not have permission to view this page." message.
So the specially hidden page can only be accessed by those who know the password. But all can still view the rest of the web site.

As I said originally, I really need hand holding re this, as Web design and its functionality are not my speciality! I get by, but I don't always understand fully how it works etc! I look at web site designing perhaps as - I can tell the time but I don't know exactly how a watch actually works! :D

This functionality can be implemented with the login tools.

Tutorials:

There is also a lot of information available in the help.

Hi

Have successfully managed to get a private area up and running, and thank you for all the help offered.
I know this isn't quite the same and perhaps it should have a new topic? But it does directly relate to the private area... (Mods, please feel free to move if need be)
I placed a few pictures in the private area of the school we are going to be using for a exhibition soon. But when viewed on an Ipad they are all upside down? Rotating the Ipad doesn't help as the auto rotate flips them back again to the upside down position! When viewed on a Windows PC or Android Tablet or Android smart phone they are the correct way around. Any ideas why they turn? What if anything, should or can I do to control their position?

Unlike some tools in Windows which have automatic orientation, in an HTML page images are displayed "AS IS".
So, you will have to make sure the orientation is correct before you add the images to your website.
