Fix Justify (text block) *** UPDATED Oct-01-2012 ***

Post by [RZ] »

[rz] Fix Justify v1.0.1

The extreme lightweight solution for justified text blocks with compatibility output format.

Do you have complex texts with fonts, sizes, letter space, line height and the like?
Do you want that these texts appear the same in IE9, in IE8 or in FF as in your workspace?
These texts are such specific cases that you cannot define a "normal" css style in the wb's style manager?

As you may know, if you select a custom line height or if you select a compatibility output format you won't be able to justify the text block.

Some users reported this as a bug (me too, so don't worry!), but in honor of the truth, it is not an issue at all.
Is the way that css works...

If you want to create almost pixel perfect text alignments, you need to divide each line in divs; but only text blocks can be justified, not lines. This is the price...

Well, we can say that this WAS a downside, past times; now you have at hand this add-on for all of the above.

Supports all major browsers: IEquirks, IE7, IE8, IE9, Chrome, FireFox, Opera, Safari, Maxthon, Lunascape, and still count...

Sample project file included.

* This update fixes some bugs with links, bold and italic fonts.

DOWNLOAD

HTML 4.01 Transitional
W3C compliant

How to use?

1.a Just make your texts in WB as you usually do.
1.b Optionally, you can select the letter spacing and/or line height.
2. Of course, click on the justify icon in the toolbar.
3. Now the (almost) last thing you must take in count to make it work...
3.a Open the Text Properties dialog
3.b In General tab / Compatibility / Output format, select the "Use <div> with position for each line" option.
4. And then, put this extension on top and indicate the texts (the object id) that you want to justify. As simple as it is!

Hope you can find this useful.
Enjoy!

Great job, I like it very much. Thank you for that extension.

You should mention that it is necessary to make the line breaks inside a text block with <shift><return> instead of <return> only.

Thank you for your feedback, appreciated.

This is not necessary at all. Just type your text as you usually do.

But if I don't do that, sometimes the result looks like this.

[rz], I figured out something about the extension.
If a link is specified for the text (all of it) the justify fix doesn't work!

from the attached info file:
4. And then, put this extension on top and indicate the texts (the object id) that you want to justify. As simple as it is!

please be sure you moved the extension on top of the other objects.
check this out in the object manager panel.
also be sure, if you entered more than one text object, their ids are comma separated without spaces; as it is indicated in the properties dialog.
thanks.

I'm using an older version of this great extension. When I try to download the updated version, the link in the first post leads me to the download of "rz-fixtables.zip". Who is wrong, me or the link?

this is not related to the extension but with the way each browser renders text, especially in tablets devices, it depends on the fonts used, among other things - usually fonts in tablets are bigger, make your text object wider

RZ - Posted the following question in the "general" forum and Pablo directed me to your extension. Please advise with what I need to know about the latest and greatest version of your extension (ie - how it will render on desktop v tablet / mobile in different browsers)....

"I am noticing that some paragraphs (depending the browser and how close the last line comes to the edge of the paragraph) spills over into an additional line not previousely seen. Other than using the suggested methods (additional padding between objects, publish as image, <div> w/ and w/o position), is there anyway to force a 5 line paragraph stay within it's 5 line limits and not spill over into a 6th line thus crowding the object below it?

Please advise. Thank you in advance for your time.

PS - why does the browser exaggerate the paragraph when line / character spacing is added?"

Thank you for your time.

i dont have all the devices for testing; however i always try to do my best to avoid adverse results. please refer to the attached info file in the downloaded zip and follow this thread for even further info.

just follow the simple steps on how to use this extension. as stated, it works only with text objects that have div with position; there is no need to reinvent the wheel. if you see that some words appear below, just make the object 1px wider until the text fits as in the workspace mode.
IeMS wrote:PS - why does the browser exaggerate the paragraph when line / character spacing is added?"
the <br> has the same height as the other characters' height plus the normal interline font space. in that case you can select the <br> and set it to arial 6px to reduce the exaggeration...

hope this helps and regards
