if you have any question about other developers' extensions, please post them in their original thread.
as simple as it is.
if i have a question about some topic and i post in other's thread, how the developer will find my question to give me an answer? besides this, it can be interpreted as "hijacking".

it seems you didn't get the point.
how this thread (or any other topic) can be useful and for the benefit to all if the users using this extension (or any other one) post questions not related to the extension itself? will be confusing, don't you think?
second, i never said or took as hijacking, i crystal clear said: "it can be interpreted as".
that's all. let's try to preserve the topics' usefulness.

Hello [RZ], how are you doing?

I am trying to do something with the extension, it is working great, but I faced something:

I have the oc2 extension for 2 layers set to docking and the dock mode is "Full", one green and one red, the only open/close mode that is working is the "fade", the slides do not work.
In your Fullsize background extension, you told me that when clicking the right down arrows it uses the layer extension but it works well in the sliding to the right and left, so can I accomplish this with what am doing?

Thank you.

*****EDIT*****
This is what you said in the fullsize background extension page:
"you can do this multiple slideshows background using the layers extensions.
use the prev/next extension.
add the slideshows you want (with the images you want in each one)
instead of pointing to yourlayerNo point to yourslideshowNo
(don't forget to add the proportional fullsize extension pointing to the slideshows, of course)
both simple and amazing, don't you think?"

I think I got the idea :)
Sorry for that but I feel lazy reading today
I will try it and let you know :)

Thanks a lot :)

you may be doing something wrong.
i'm checking this right now with docked layers and sticky layers, and the extensions are sliding right and fading as expected.
if you still facing issues, you can zip and mail me the problematic project to see what you are doing.

on regard the slideable/fadeable slideshows, that's right, this is how a did it and that is what i said.
again, you can zip and mail me the non-working sample, so i will be able to see what are you doing.

i can ensure that in both cases the extensions are working as expected...
with regards.

Hi [RZ], I am having a few performance issues with this extension

I have an icon which opens up a sticky layer (top right), and also an icon which closes it, the layer is just a basic block colour no shadows and has a CMS menu inside the layer - this works perfectly.

I have another sticky layer (top left), same operation as the one above, this time it has some html container inside (facebook), for some reason when this one closes it stutters (not smooth operation)

I have tried adding an extra "[RZ]Layers lib" to no avail, is there an explanation for this behaviour, maybe it is due to the streaming facebook data ??

Ideas pls

Thnx ;)

@FX3D
thanks for your interest in this extension.

you don't need to add the layers lib twice, only one will be enough for the whole page no matter how many instances or how many extensions of this set you added.

although i'm aware for this "flickering" behavior with some external third party code, i'm afraid there is nothing we can do about it. but you can try this:

put your external code into a layer.
treat this layer as the main layer, so open and close it with no effect or fade effect (slide effects may cause in some cases this annoying flickering).
add another layer and treat it as the base layer, you can add any of the effects list with no issue at all.
this base layer will be opened first, and then, the main layer will be opened.
(don't forget to align them properly, kind of one acts as a container of the second.)
this resource, of course, is available in the oc and oc2 extensions; take a look at the properties dialog.

hope this helps.
regards.

Thnx for looking at this [RZ], it seems if there is an HTML container box inside the layer (at least with streaming data anyway) the "moving/sliding" animations stutter, fade seems to work fine though

Other things added to layers (slideshow, menu, images, text etc) do not seem to have issues

I will use fade this will suffice ;) :P

please open the attached sample project, you will see how to open two layers; the base first, then the main.
this is a "multi-purpose" function, not only for advanced design reasons, but also for this problematic third party code; also it will be useful for inlineframes with php content (some servers may cause this "flickering" when the layer slades).
the fade effect has a downside in ie8 and earlier, the text is distorted during the fade process... but it should be less annoying than the first issue you stated.
anyhow, the trick is available, use it or leave it (means using other effect like fade).
regards.

The "rz-layers.wb" project will not be usable otherwise ;)

Hehe :D

Remember when I asked about the oc2 extension, to narrow the gap between the open/close time so when the effect is set to "slide" the layers seem to push each other rather than going away then the second layer appears. And you told me (in the example I sent you via email) that the page background can be a color that blends in the layers backgrounds.

In the live demo example, the layers seem to push each others when the do the transition.

And I also told you that I only did that (narrowing the space between them) by editing the close time to zero in the generated html file.

Well, I just wanted to mention that because that live demo hit on my memory about what I told you :) so just wanted to give a real example of what I was looking for.

You told me that you will some research about it, BUT nevermind [RZ], I am not on a hurry, actually I was playing with the layers extensions you made to see where my imaginations can take me :p

i searched for this in the previous posts here, so i didn't find this :?
now i know you are referring to the mails.
what pharore did is add an image (a shape) into the layers, so there are not visible gaps...
he did a totally unintentional trick
i will try to improve this, but as you said, your aren't in a hurry, me neither!

np I posted on the wrong topic ;)

@supersonictt I have played with events on doing a spring effect to "push" the other layer ? there is no doubt a better way of doing this though, getting late now so I am Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz ;) ideas are getting cloudy am I missing the effect you desire ?

[RZ] is the top man on this tbh as it is his quite EXCELLENT "Layers" extension that deserves the credit, along with his dedication for supporting people ;)

[rz] Layers v1.6.5

* NEW in this version:

General:
- Improved mouse and keyboard handling to "onfocus", "onblur", "onmouseover" and "onmouseout" events with tab and enter keys (includes workarounds for Chrome and IE).

New behavior in Open/Close synchronized:
- Improved "open on hover" and "deactivate close" sequences.
- Move the opened layer on top of the screen elements.
- Move the open/close icons on top of the opened layer.
These features allow to build sophisticated menus! (also separated ones in the same page - and can be placed in masterpages.)

Loop:
- Improved sequence handling "onstop" and "onplay" events.

[rz] Button v1.5.0

The complement for the [rz] Layers extensions scheme.
This lightweight extension allows you to setup an image button with ease.
Similar to the rollover extension; no jQuery effects, but this image button can receive focus, support events and many link options.
Sample project file included.

* NEW in this version:
Improved mouse and keyboard handling to "onfocus", "onblur", "onmouseover" and "onmouseout" events with tab and enter keys (includes workarounds for Chrome and IE). This allows a full integration with the [rz] Layers extension set behavior.

HTML 4.01 Transitional
W3C compliant

Enjoy!

[rz], hello again :)

It seems that the extensions set is not working with the latest build! 8.5 preview!
It was working with some previous builds of 8.5 but not the last one I downloaded yesterday!

Could you please confirm? I tested oc and oc2 but not the others.

Thank you.

*****EDIT*****
It works fine if you set objects to take control of the script (a text with an onclick function). If you set the image to open and close the layer within the extension, the image doesn't show in the preview mode.

Hello [rz].

Please see the attached sample project.

Am calling jCarousel extension using an iframe, but when using "slide down" effect to open/close the layer, the iframe flickers (but not in IE).
This happened to me also in another project; so it seems that the iframe flickers if it contains some code (PHP or javascript) when using any open/close effect other than "fade". I used your oc extension with iframe inside it to call the "News Writer Pro" extension from another page and it used to flicker.

The reason am calling the jCarousel using an iframe is when inserting the extension directly inside the layer and using "fade" effect to open/close the layer, the layer open/close function works %100. But, if the open/close effect is changed to anything else the layer open/close function doesn't work!

Hope there is a solution for this :)

Post by [RZ] »

the issue is in the jquery. unfortunately, this is the way it works.
now, you can understand why i added the "base layer" concept.
if you have inlineframes with php code, yes, the flickering is annoying.
the only way to avoid this, is opening the layer in two steps.

so, treat the inlineframe directly as a "layer" by itself.

the sequence is as follows:

select the main layer: the inlineframe (yes, enter the inlineframe id instead of a layer id).
the method should be: fade with time or fade without time (just enter 0), it's up to you.
set 'base layer exists' to yes.
enter the ('base' or 'fixed') layer id.
select the effect you want: yes, also slide! with the time you want.

when you click 'open', now the sequence is:
the "sliding" layer is opened.
the "fading" layer (the inlineframe) is opened.

when you click 'close', now the sequence is:
the "fading" layer (the inlineframe) is closed.
the "sliding" layer is closed.

have a nice layering! :)

Thanks a lot for spending some time describing the steps :) they worked %100.

In my case http://www.pulsecube.com it won't work.
Visit the site please, and click on "What we do", you can see that a pagination extension is in oc2 extension, what I want to change is the "SlideShow" with "jCarousel", so I guess I cannot use the iframe as a layer as it is within the pagination extension.

But I really appreciate the help you offered, and it might lead to a solution in my case, I will dig deeper ;)

Thanks a lot [rz] for the help :)

well, as far as i can see, you are using a bit older version of the layers extensions set, i recommend you to update it.
second, you have an issue loading a resource.
i'm not familiar with the jcarousel extension, i thought it is the standard one that comes with wb, but i guess you are referring to another one that i don't know about it.
so, in just a few words, i'm not able to solve the issue, but you said it worked fine for you...

Hello [rz], how are you doing? Long time no see! Hope everything is going well with you.

I am wondering if something can be done using the extension, please have a look at this demo:
http://d2o0t5hpnwv4c1.cloudfront.net/04 ... index.html
You can see that the open/close button is attached to the layer.
Here is another example:
http://www.beyonce.com/i-was-here
The arrow on the left opens a panel (nevermind the full width of the panel, it is not what am looking for).

Adendum's extension "Tab Slide Out" does almost the same job but the icon doesn't change upon the click. In your extension, the icon changes, but I don't know if it is possible to attach the button to the layer.

The first link I provided has a tutorial on how to accomplish this, I still didn't read it fully, but I have a feeling that this can be done with your extension and am missing something.

I posted a thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=42&t=50723
It describes exactly what I want to do.
So before examining the tutorial I just wanted to ask about it :)

Thank :)

hello;
thanks for your suggestion - i remember some time ago i had a private (positive) discussion about this topic.
i added only these effects that are logically applicable to both left to right and right to left environments.
i.e. blind horizontal works fine only in left to right pages, making it to work in right to left ones would take a lot of code just to patch the absence of blind directions. something similar occurs with blind vertical, we have only from top to bottom but not from bottom to top...
anyhow i will be testing again and double checking which effects can be added preserving the simplicity and the logic for both language types.
regards.

Actually you are right, some effects do not make sense, but the "drop" effect might be useful as well...
I tested the "drop" effect and it worked with no issues (according to my humble tests), so you know better in these cases ;)

Hello [rz], how are you doing?
One question: I have a shape on the index page, when it is clicked, it takes you to page1. On page one I have 2 layers with oc2 extension.
What I want is when I click on the shape on the index page it takes me to page1 and at the same time it opens the first layer, is it possible?

Thanks :)

hello there; once you click on the link to a page, you cannot make a special action in the destination page because it cannot know what you did in the previous page; unless, of course, you manage this with javascript/cookies.
if you need just a "fixed" action, you can call the myobject_open() function once the destination page is fully loaded.
hope this helps.

Well, I was almost sure that this cannot be done unless using javascript. Using a function on page load will not be also possible, because in the real design, I have 10 layers, so it is impossible to be done. I found a workaround for this: to make 10 pages; page1 layer1 is visisble, page2 layer2 is visible and so on, and each link on the index page opens the related page :)

if you use cookies, you don't need to repeat n times your target.
i thought you want the layer to be opened with the effect you indicated in their [associated extension] properties.
if you dont want use cookies, you can manage a parameter added in the link address, i.e. a fake bookmark, get the bookmark and according to its value you can call the proper myobjectid_open() function... just my cent

[rz], thank you for offering help. I just dont want to waste your time, so let me make it simple and try to get your point.
On the index page, there are 3 images; image1, image2 and image3. All images link to page1.
on page1 there are 3 oc2 extensions; oc21, oc22 and oc23. Text1, text2 and text3 open oc2 layers respectively.
image1 in index page is related to layer1 in page1 which is related to oc21 extension and so on for the rest of the images.
As i described in my previous post, clicking on image1 should open page1 and oc21, in this case there is no problem because oc21 will be already opened (the related layer will be set to visible). Now clicking image2 should open page1, hide oc21 and open oc22. Same thing for image3.
So i just would like to understand the bookmark trick if you can just describe it here in terms of my situation and objects naming i would really appreciate it.

thanjs a lot :)

hello!
well, the 1.6.6 is an "internal" version because i'm sorting some stupid behaviors in ie and found a strange issue in browsers with chromium engine on certain conditions in very complex designs. these thingies are ready, fortunately.
if you enter (again ;) ) to the online demo, you will see a modal window sample, this is a new feature. although you can mimic it in a way with the current v1.6.5, there are some specific functions that will (soon?) be ready.
also the update contains a better focus/hover handling, this way i can remove some patches i did in the lib and the startup for chrome and ie.
kind regards

Hope to see that coming soon :)

Just a stupid question; is there a way to hide the "pointer" image in pagination extension using css?
I am using the extension but I am not using any pointer images, so in IE and browsers alike show that weird box.
I can hide it by adding "display:hidden;" to the "pntr" div in the html file, and it works, but I prefer to do it using css to do it directly from the program.

Thanks :)

*****EDIT*****
Nevermind [RZ], I found it :)
I added a pointer image -let's say- a.png then added this css code:

Code: Select all

img[src*="images/a.png"]
{
    display: none;
}
and it worked :)

Hello [rz]...

I was checking your online demo version 1.7 and it has a modal extension, you told me before that this can be achieved by some tricks in WWB, and I did it :)
My question is: in version 1.7, when the modal layer is opened, can it be centred in the browser window? To make my question clear, if the page has a vertical scroll bar and you scroll down a bit, then you click on the modal extension, does it open in the centre after the page is scrolled?
I mean just like a photo gallery (lightbox let's say), if you have 40 images (4 columns by 10 rows) and you scroll the page down then you click the last image, the lightbox opens in the centre of view. So is this included in the modal extension?

Thank you :)

you can place your modal layer wherever you want, it depends on your design.
if you want to make it fixed, you can use the available wb options or add the custom style you need.
if you also want to drag it (as in the online demo) you can use the [rz] Drag Layers extension: http://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/forum/view ... 42&t=52259
