Link colours aren't how I set them

I'm missing something really obvious here - but I can't see it.

I have some text with one of the words as a link (simple WBS file is here https://www.dropbox.com/s/f8aw6qmyoojkf ... k.wbs?dl=1)

I want to change the default colour of the link to something else - in this case 'cornflower'). So, I go into style manager and (in the above example), I've created a link style called 'redlink' and applied it to the text word.

But it's not showing that colour but another one.

This came about because I wanted to have text on a red background, so I changed the text to white and the link colour to something nearly white. And it didn't do anything at all.

So, what have I missed here?

cheers

Alan

You will need to set the color for all states of the link (default, hover, visited, active).
Also, the output format of the text is set to 'Use <p>', but you did not set 'enable responsive fonts'

I've done all that and it still isn't showing me the 'cornflower' colour in either WWB or in my preview.

Perhaps you grabbed a space before or after the word when you originally created the link but you aren't including that space when you try to adjust the color?

In the project you have share, you did not set the colors for all states.

When I open it up and edit the link colours, they all seem to be set: I edited the link, clicked on 'edit styles', then selected 'redlink' to edit and it shows all the colours set. As you can see from the picture below, the default colour is not 'cornflower although it should be (third box)'.

You say the 3rd one should be Cornflower but you don't show this particular link in your pic. :?

The default link colour should be cornflower and if you look at the third box in the picture, that is what it shows. But if you look at the text, the colour shown is a blue colour.

If you download my wbs file (it's only 16Kb) and open it up, you should see what I am seeing. If not, then I want to know what I am doing wrong.

Jerry, you may be on to something here. But I would have thought the mods I made overrode the defaults of the page. I can't change the page defaults for real because my proper page (not the test one here) has a lot of other links which are OK.

I'm not at my computer but the default link color you show matches the first link in the display below. Also, cornflower is supposed to be a blue color.

So are you saying when you change that yellow color to another color it goes back to the yellow color?

I got the name wrong. Sorry. It should be cornsilk - a pale yellow colour.

Can someone try my test file and tell me what they get?

Based on your screenshot, it does not look like you have set the color for all link states.
visited, activate and hover, still have the default color. You have only changed the style for 'default'
If you preview the page in the browser then the link will most like be purple because you have linked to the same page (so the state will be 'visited').

Also, note that in the workspace the color will always be blue, because this is how Microsoft renders links...

I have set the colours. The there were two things wrong.

1. I had already been to the target site, so the link colour in the browser was 'visited'.
2. For my test, I had forgotten that I have to view it in a browser to see the colours.

So, thanks for everyone who commented on this post.

So now the colors are how you wanted them?

Yes they are. That's what comes of doing things at 11pm.

It was when I was creating a video to show what I was seeing and talking my way through it that the issue became obvious to me - it was the fact that I had already visited the site and therefore the colour showing was the 'visited' one that the light suddenly dawned on me. So, I checked using a different browser and the colour became the 'default'. So, to fix it, I made 'visited' the same foreground and background as 'default' and everything worked. I can now move forward.

Cheers

Why don't you import a few pages to make up for it
