So ... what is it supposed to do? All I see is a solid grey top half and a solid light blue bottom half, with your website address in the middle.

Here is the source to the extension. I must say a lot of credit goes to Eddy and Pablo who gave me a lot of guidance with the XLS file.

I simply posted the link so users know where it comes from. The page you see is the link to version 4.0 which is BETA and I have implemented this extension based on the last release 3.1. I did not want to confuse people with some of the features that V4.0 has which are not available in V.3.1.

I guess you can add as many as you like, however you need to change the XML file manually in the produced HTML. I cannot think of any other way. I had to do the same for a site using SimpleViewr.

Not Showing Up

Post by star57 »

With the ones that have an issue of this not showing up, Use a layer. Works for me when I have the issue on most extensions. Instead of an Iframe I use a layer.

Just FYI

I really like this extension. It is exactly what I am looking for, except I cannot get the description feature to work. Only the title will appear. Is the description feature active?

Sneil69, is there any way to activate the description entry in this extension? Also add basic text attributes (font, bold)?

I'm looking to be able to build slideshows like these with your extension:
http://www.stopgreenpath.com/slideshows/buildingss.html

I had to build each photo with description text in Photoshop before importing into WB slideshow. I'm trying to get around this.

As far as I know that is not possible, Version of 4.0 of Bcastr does have this feature but I have not implemented that and don't have the time to do this.

See http://www.ruochi.com for more details.

Sorry. :cry:

This extension will work, they have each picture on the website as a JPG, so create your pic with titles and Dont use the title info or the buttons in the slideshow, Works great for the ones I have.

That's my website. I built that slideshow. I'm trying to avoid having to do this. I have many of these to build and will have to update the text frequently.

Thanks for the info.

Great find star57. This would make a great extension, especially if a fade option were added. I really like the fact you can add a link in the text.

The extension would be perfect if text attributes like font, bold, and italics were added.

Thank you so much star57.

I agree, Originally I did this extension for a clients website and it was not the intention to release but then I did, Now I swampted with soooo much work that I simply do not find the time to improve it. Version 4.0 has many cool features and is heavily XML driven. I would welcome anyone who would like to try it. :lol:

HI protectourlands
Regarding the script star57 gave link to it may just be possible to make into extension I have looked at it I know that I cant add the fade this would need extra js and I am not a js writer. The only other issue I see is you will need to add images one by one and same for descriptions etc. I did try using a xsl so that it it would call images from a xml but instead of displaying one image on page it displayed all the images inserted at once
:( I will let you know the results...
Edit
As Eddy has pointed out this script cannot be used in the making of extension due to copyrights...sorry I will leave it due to this

Thanks for pointing this out Eddy looks like if you want to use it needs to be used "AS IS" so no point in porting over to a extension :( pity..

This is a bummer.

I must have checked into 20 or more flash slideshow programs and none of them allow descriptions below the picture. I'm really amazed by this.

I thank you all for your efforts. I really do appreciate it.

Sorry,I cannot change the rules from that website,but you can use the script how it is .

Maybe this helps,
The image urls and text go`s in the HTML object.
The nice thing is your images wil al in the images folder on your server.

Insert first al related scripts in your page.
Insert the code from newsDisplay.js in notepad and save as newsDisplay.js
Use the build-in file publischer to select and publisch the file together with the page.

For the vieuwer,

1)insert the images on your page.
2)copy the image path (images/imagename1.jpg)
3)paste the image path in your script and change width and height
4)type the text.
5)upload all,after upload all remove the images from the page and upload again,now are all your images in the images folder on your server.

This in HTML object.( i have removed the read more code)

Code: Select all

<ul id="news">
  <li><img src="images/imagename1.jpg" width="200" height="150" alt="Picture 1">
    <p>Claritas est etiam processus dynamicus, qui sequitur mutationem consuetudium lectorum.</p>
  </li>
  <li><img src="images/imagename2.jpg" width="200" height="150" alt="Picture 2">
    <p>Eodem modo typi, qui nunc nobis videntur parum clari, fiant sollemnes in futurum. <p>
  </li>
  <li><img src="images/imagename3.jpg" width="200" height="150" alt="Picture 3">
    <p>Mirum est notare quam littera gothica, quam nunc putamus parum claram.</p>
  </li>
</ul>

Thanks Eddy,
The legal notice is correct, and we are not changing anything, just making it WWb user freindly! Just as any script.

BUT I have contacted the site and the Maker, for approval and will give you an update on the outcome.

As long as the Website Links in the code is not changed, no problems. Will post the reply from the company!

Thanks

Because I have so many of these to do, I'm really hoping for the lazyman's solution of an extension I can add the photos, type the text for each photo, then publish.

Eddy's way will work, so at least I have that option if necessary. It looks like it will be a little less work than having to form the images with text in photoshop. Thank you Eddy.

Let's hope star57 gets a favorable response. I also contacted them asking about adding fade and text features to the script. Thank you star57.

You guys are great.

Ok, I have not got an answer yet, but was researching the rules!

http://javascript.internet.com/faq/

Are Javascripts here free, whats the catch?
Answer

Yes, we offer our site as a free "public service" resource. Simply stated, all the scripts on this site are free for personal or business use. The only requirement for use of archives is that you leave the credit information inside the script. We also don't think it's too much to ask if you would please link back to The JavaScript Source site to help spread the word about our site. The address for linking to The JavaScript Source is:

http://javascript.internet.com

Thanks! And, more information about linking to us is available at:

Hope this is enough for approval from Eddy and support. Still awaiting word from the Poster Fang, the writer of the script. I signed up with the forum and asked in an email!

You don't need my approval,I did post this to warn the extension builder.
The Copyright, Licenses say you may not distribute it.

If you do distribute it without permission than its your decision and you have all the consequences. :wink:

Hi Nicolas_PL It is possible to place more than one copy of the extension on your page at one time you just need to use folders to be able to do this ...when using any flash extension that has a xml file each extension needs to be individual so that if you use more than one on a page it doesnt get seen as just one and reads from one xml using folders should resovle this take a look here

Hello Bendigo,

Thanks for the extension, it is really great.
Just one question, is there a way to make the slideshow pause on mouseover the image?
Thanks.

Well, there is no such an option to do so, but am asking you as the developer of the extension, is there a setting I can add to the .xml file under config section?

Thanks

Well as you appreciate extensions are nothing but "Wrappers" for the original code. So I may have developed the extension but not the original code. Your best bet is to contact the original developer of the Bcastr and find out from them.
