copy?

Post by crownfield »

I had a web site, and to speed up a new page I used copy for a menu.
never again.

I had to delete every menu.
as I added them
before any edit, I renamed them to a new and unique name.
after doing this for every menu in the website, everything works.

as best I can tell, the problems started with copying the menu. I think the program did not manage the menu's the way I thought it would. I would have thought that:

1 it would keep the name and reuse the menu.
2 generate a new and unique name and let me use it.

apparently there is a choice 3, and it not a good choice.

so, the problem is gone, and I will not copy elements again.
it seems a failure in either the copy, or the name error checking.
one of them should have made a new name a requirement.

If you use 'copy page'. then a new instance of the page will be created.
All names of the objects on the page will be the same.

can I copy something like a menu, or a marquee
and have it in more than one place, all with the same content?
what are the rules for editing the contents?

Of course, you can copy the menu, but you can also use an embedded page to re-use the same object(s).

Or else make the menu part of a master frame or master page

and when I copy the menu, or the marquee,
any changes in one copy are reflected in all the copies?

No. If you copy one menu to a different page they will be separate menus. If you want to have a menu on each page that you only have to change once in the project and it is reflected on all the pages, you need to follow what Pablo mentioned by either using an embedded page or create a master page.

A copy is simply that a copy of the same menu but with different ID's.
