WWB64 and extensions.

Post by WWBman » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:00 am

Pablo, can you please clarify/confirm a few things about WWB 64-bit.
I'm a bit confused regarding the state of extensions.

1. All third party extensions should work with wwb64?
2. Have all other extensions now been converted for wwb64?
3. For existing projects how will a user know if there is a 64-bit version of an extension?
4. I used the phpblog extension and there is a phpblog.wbx64 extension in the system folder.
I also used the Cookie Policy extension but there is no .wbx64 version in the system folder.
Is this because some extensions did not need to be converted?
5. So, except for any possible bugs, the 64-bit version should be OK to use as normal for testing, just like the 32-bit version?
Thanks.

1. All third party extensions should work with wwb64?
Correct
2. Have all other extensions now been converted for wwb64?
Yes, with a few exceptions. Mainly because these extensions are no longer useful anyway.
3. For existing projects how will a user know if there is a 64-bit version of an extension?
http://extensions.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/ indicates whether there is a 64 bit version.
4. Is this because some extensions did not need to be converted?
Correct
5. So, except for any possible bugs, the 64-bit version should be OK to use as normal for testing, just like the 32-bit version?
Correct

Just one more thing!
If an existing 32-bit project uses an extension (which has been updated to 64-bit), what will happen when the project is loaded in WWB64 if that extension has not been reinstalled for the 64-bit version via the extension manager?

You should get an error message when loading the project if an extension is not installed.

Sorry to be a pain but I don't quite understand something.
If an existing project, that uses an extension, is loaded using WWB64, how does WWB know whether there is a 64-bit version of the extension, if the extension has not been reinstalled under WWB64?

The 64 bits version does not support 32bit extensions, so any extension is assumed to be 64bit, if not then the project will fail to load.

I'm really confused now!
I'm doing some more WWB64 testing and I've immediately hit a problem with extensions.
E.g. Dataviewer, HTML TextBox, jQuery FAQ, Justified Gallery amongst others are not available in the Extension Manager.
I must be missing something!

This is most likely because there is a conflict with the 32bit version using the same system folder.
I will investigate if it's better to use separates folders to prevent confusion.

FWIW:
In the extensions folder now there is a phpblog.uwbx and a phpblog.wbx64.
The 32-bit and 64-bit versions each show the correct one in the Extension Manager.
