Setting up FTP for New Website

Post by clarkhowell »

Hello - I am attempting to replace a W**dp***s website with a new WYSIWYG Website in a HostGator.com account. This is the URL:

https://jaxstoneinc.com/

I've contacted HostGator several times, with no success. :-( I keep getting "failed or error" messages, no matter what combination of credentials I try. Also, I can't seem to get a satisfactory answer to the question, 'Do I need to "do something" different in setting up the FTP since this is NOT a W**dp***s website?' Maybe you know if this is the case.

The latest set of credentials are as follows:

Host: ftp.jaxstoneinc.com
User: clark413@jaxstoneinc.com
PW: clarkwaaa!
Remote Path: /home4/chrisjumper/public_html
Port: 21

Could someone try these credentials to see where I may be going wrong?

Thank you,
Clark

Perhaps your hosting provider requires you to be using SFTP rather than FTP. On viewing the site source it looks like it was made with WB12 unfortunately this version is no longer supported but now see you are linking to the one made with WP!

This seems to work:

Type: FTP (Standard File Transfer Protocol)
URL: http://jaxstoneinc.com
Host: jaxstoneinc.com

other values the same.
If it works change the password!

So, I used:

URL: https://jaxstoneinc.com
Host: jaxstoneinc.com
User: clark413@jaxstoneinc.com
PW: clarkwaaa!
Remote Path: /home4/chrisjumper/public_html
Port: 21

I still get the popup message saying:
Failed to change to the specified directory on the FTP server:
440 Can't change directory to:
/home4/chrisjumper/public_html: No such file or directory

And please note, I also tried changing the "Remote Folder" field to: /public_html and it still won't work.

The login details you have gave are for the site made with WP. Please note that although this section is "Off Topic Section" it is for issues (Off Topic) related to WYSIWYG Web Builder and not for Wor*p*e** related.
The login details should be for the following site you originally posted

Ah, when I use Explorer I can explore the directory with no problem.
But if I use Test then I get a 550 Can't change directory ... error message.
Sorry, don't understand that.

The FTP account already logs you into the 'pubic_html' folder so there is no need to specify this.
You will need to use /

Yep, that works.
I learn something every day!
I now understand the difference between Test and Explore.
