Re: Anyone else facing uploading connection problem?

Just some additional info.
Problem started last week when my website suddenly disappeared when searched for.
Instead I was directed to a Microsoft ad page for internet web services.
This then changed to a 404 error notice for Website pending, about to be published - from my Web Host I think?
After contacting them my Web Host restored my website.
After this I noticed my current problems with uploading from W9 to my website.
Up until this moment W9 uploads worked fine - as they had done for a few years.

Is any of this relevant?

Like Pablo's answer this is definitely a host issue. Why because the programme would never make your site disappear or redirect you to another page once uploaded to the server/host, once you have uploaded then it is out with the programme which has no control what happens to it.

I think and believe that your host/server has been compromised in some way or had issues, as you mentioned after you contacted them they restored it for you confirming it was server/host related even the 404 is from your host so this tells me that it is not software related.

I would suggest you contact them for a better explanation to what happened, but I can see them saying it had nothing to do with them but the software used, but stand your ground on this as after all you are paying them for there service and not Pablo.

Note WWB 9 is not supported (updated) anymore but it still works the same as when you originally purchased no changes have been made to it since then, so it safe to say it is your host.

Like BaconFires, I strongly believe this is a host related issue.

It sounds like your host has changed something and did not tell you.
For example, if you can no longer publish then they may have changed the server settings or maybe even switched to secure ftp.

Thanks for your input. I have made a request to deal with a manager at my Webhost - still waiting for a response.
In the meantime I received this communication from my Firewall Provider. Is it relevant or helpful? I don't really understand the technical terminology but it does seem directed towards Pablo.

"Usually 550 errors signify some sort of Permission Denied error or no suck directory/file. So it’s most likely a misconfiguration somewhere in the plugin.
What we would recommend would be to contact the plugin support, they should be familiar with all these error types and assist you with resolving the remaining issues."

A 550 error usually indicates a email issue with SMTP which deals with how mail is sent and nothing to do how you upload!. You mention you are using a Firewall and the provider says this is the cause, to a point it may be a Firewall issue but not related to WWB but your Firewall permissions and how you have set them to work or allow WWB to pass through it. Maybe you Firewall has had a update or your provider has changed something.

To resolve you will need to give permission(s) in your Firewall to allow WWB to pass through and allow uploads. Note this is something we cannot assist with and you should read any documentation on how to apply or contact the Firewall vendor.

I am grateful for all your inputs.
Unlikely to be a firewall issue as firewall was down when all this upload trouble was happening.
Below is the latest response from my web host -

"Thank you for update. As we know there is no issue with FTP connectivity from your local machine to the server. Your application uses same FTP port for connectivity i.e. 21, so its only the publishing details you are using causing the issue. Through teamviewer I have already checked your application, and searched for the settings, however I am not much familiar with the application which is third party application.
I suggest you to try uninstalling the application, and re-entering the publishing details which may help."

Does this make sense? I know how to uninstall W9 but if I do that how do I re-install it? Is this an advisable action? And would I lose my current website in the process?

Checking back I see I have been a contented customer of this web host for about 14 years. But last night a computer science graduate and programmer friend suggested it might be better to change to a new web host and reconnect my W9 website with them. Any views?

I am a real expert in another field - but not computing. I am having to weigh-up often conflicting advice about all this. What next? Is this a curse on all non-specialist computer users?

Reinstalling the software will not change this behavior.

To find out where the problem is, you can try to use another FTP tool and see if you can upload your website manually.
If that does not work either then you can be sure it's a server related issue.
If it does work then the problem is either in the configuration or something else on your computer (most likely a firewall) is blocking the connection.

Are you sure you did not change any settings?
Did it always work with PORT mode (= passive mode off)? Because that is very unusual!
Also are you sure that the remote folder is correct?

Once again I would like to note that the software does not suddenly start behaving differently after a few years of working correctly.

I like Pablo feel that this is configuration issue either with your Firewall provider or your host. Something has changed either the Firewall has been updated and it doesn't recognize WWB, or your host has made a configuration change and not informed you, this could he they no longer support FTP but SFTP. If it is the later ypy will need to use a third party FTP such as Filezilla. I to would also suggest trying a third party FTP as I mentioned and get back.

Thanks go to Pablo and Bacon Bits. After nine days of bouncing around from one differing advice to another it is finally sorted. And how? By following your initial advice and keeping going back again and again to my Web host support team. By giving it back to them as a technical challenge they have eventually come good and I have a restored upload publish link which, so far, has successfully survived two webpage edit and upload tests.

You fundamental hunch and my inexpert suspicion seem to have been proved correct.

One word to Pablo. Considering that I am just an ordinary customer for your software this forum has been a huge help. Along with a previous very positive experience, when you assisted after my computer was compromised a year or two back, this experience here has been really encouraging and a great advert for your company. You have a firm fan and WYSIWYG user who will recommend you and your products to anyone who cares to ask me.

Glad your host has finally taken it upon themselves and resolved there issue instead of trying to pass the buck and blaming the software used. Thanks for saying thanks to the both of us Pablo is the real "Jedi" master and I am but a student who tries to help were help is needed. I am sure Pablo will appreciate you recommending WYSIWYG Web Builder to whoever asks what you use to design...
