Master page not responsive with Layout Grid

Post by Chris_t » Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:25 am

I've just put a quick test page together using a Layout grid using a master page for the Header navigation and the footer plus a content placeholder of course. I have created breakpoints for the master page but they do not seem to work with this layout grid. The master page breakpoints work with the page on its own but not when used with the page with the layout grid.

Is it not possible to make this work or am I doing something wrong please:

Master pages can only be part of a layout grid if the content of that page uses layout grids too. All content must be floating.

Note that I cannot see what you have done based on the HTML code only. I need to see your project to be able to give you more specific advise.

Thanks for sharing for the project.
The breakpoints in the content page are not the same as in the master frame.
You will need to use the same breakpoints in both pages.

Hi Pablo. I'm attempting to see if I can use Layout Grids with a Master Frame as an alternative to using breakpoints to make my site responsive. I am essentially trying to mimic Bootstrap which seems to be very responsive without the need for creating separate layouts. Am I trying to do the impossible? So far I have not had much luck. If you let me know the e-mail address I can send you a 2 page example. Thanks.

Master frames can be used with Layout Grids.
See this related tutorial (with example):

Hi Pablo. Yes I have downloaded that page and worked with it. In it's current form, it is not responsive, I think because of the Page Header and layer. Also, the Master frame is not using layout grids. However, working from another one of your templates called Desktop, I have made some progress. I broke the page into a master frame and an index page and it is responsive without having to create different breakpoints which is my goal. At the moment I have 2 problems: In full screen mode on a high res desktop, the page expands to the entire width of the screen even though both pages have a width of 970. Can I prevent that? Second, I am using the Responsive Menu for navigation. At 320 pix, it is causing the entire page to scroll horizontally. The rest of the page fits nicely at 320. The breakpoint in the menu is set to 320. It does this even if the menu title is blank. If I take the menu out or use a Panel menu, there is no scrolling. I don't have this problem with the same menu used on a page without layout grids using different breakpoints. Here is a link to the test: http://www.riversiderc.com/test/. BTW, I want to tell you that I have been programming for over 40 years and WB is one of the best, if not THE best software tool I have ever used. Congratulations on a great product.

In it's current form, it is not responsive,
Correct, because the purpose of this example is not how to implement a responsive website, but to demonstrate how to use master frames and layout girds.
You will need to add breakpoints (if needed) yourself.

The menu is too wide for the viewport, so you will been to set the breakpoint of the menu to a larger value (where it 'breaks')
This has nothing to do with layout grids or master frames...

Hi Pablo. Thanks for the response. I'm not sure w are talking about quite the same thing. My problem is that without breakpoints in the project, the Responsive Menu does not reduce it's width in smaller viewports. All other contents of layout grids do adjust appropriately but not the menu. The actual behavior of the menu is correct. That is, it shifts to "hamburger" at the appropriate breakpoint. The problem is that the cell does not shrink and causes a scroll bar to appear. Does this make sense? Remember, my goal is to avoid using breakpoints. So far this is my only issue. Please have another look at the site: http://www.riversiderc.com/test/. Thanks again.

My problem is that without breakpoints in the project, the Responsive Menu does not reduce it's width in smaller viewports.
That is probably because the menu is set the a fixed width.
To make it flexible please enable 'full width'.
