Using CKEditor v4.0 with Newswriter Pro

Post by Viggo » Tue Dec 11, 2012 11:34 pm

Greetings,

I think that newswriter Pro is excellent for spesific CMS needs.

1) How can I use CKEditor v4.0 with Newswriter Pro?
2) Will Newswriter Pro be updated to handle CKEditor v4.0 in the near future?

Sorry if this has been answerred already, but I am not able to find any information about it.

Thanks and Regards

Maybe in the future we will add support for CKEditor v4.0.
However basically it should be a matter of overwriting the current version, if they did not make any major changes in the core of the editor...

Greetings,

Thank you, I thought so too. I did attempt to use it but did not succeed. Will dive more into this later and make another attempt.

CKEditor v4.0 seem to have many advantages and I think it would be great with native support for CKEditor v4.0 in Newswriter Pro.

Greetings,

It's been a long time since I worked with WWB now: Using the latest v10.3 now and tried CKEditor 4 with News Writer Pro. However the editor only shows up completely plain with no buttons, skin etc. I have tested with a plain html and also the samples to verify that the CKEditor install is ok ( in subfolder myweb\ckeditor\ ).
Is there an example somewhere that demonstrates News Writer Pro using CKEditor 4 with all toolbar features enabled etc?

I went back to CKEditor 3 which works fine, except I am not able to change any setting. Is there some examples on what to place in the New Writer Pro EditorSettings ? I have tried everything I have found here in the forums and one the CKEditor web site.

Finally I tried the TinyMCE editor. Works fine except as for CKEditor 3, I am not able to change the editor settings. Again I have tried everything I can find here and other places. Is there an example on how to use the EditorSettings in News Writer Pro?

Been spending all weekend on this but to no success.

Thanks in advance
Regards
Viggo

I'm sorry I did not have time yet to look at CKEditor 4, so I cannot help you with this. For me it will also take a few hours to study the changes between 3 and 4.

Thank you!

After some more investigation it appears that the CKEditor 4 does not start at all, it is the TextArea plain editor that shows up (by default/fallback?).

I will use CKEditor 3 or TinyMCE for now, but I really need to figure out what to put into the EditorSettings for either of them - to enable full set of features.
Are there any examples of what excatly goes into Editor->EditorSettings in News Writer Pro?

Viggo

The available options depend on the selected editor. You will need to study the editor's documented for more details.
In the CMS section of the help you will find some example for tinymce.
But the concept is the same for other editors, only with different values.

1 - Download ckeditor 4 (full version) from the ckeditor website.
2 - Copy all the new files across to your ckeditor 3 directory and overwrite all files.
3 - Now, CKEditor 4 should work but you wont see any icons or they look all messed up (but you should still see the editor).
4 - Now, go back to ckeditor website and download the 'moono' skin and unzip it.
5 - in your ckeditor 3 directory (which you have just overwriten with ckeditor 4, delete the moono folder from the 'skins' folder.
6 - Now, copy the 'newly' downloaded 'moono' skin to the skins folder.

7 - Now, edit 'config.js' which can be found in the ckeditor folder and add this bit of code:

Code: Select all

CKEDITOR.editorConfig = function(config) {
   config.skin = 'moono';
   CKEDITOR.config.language = 'en'
};

This should now work.

Scott

Hi Scott,

Thank you so much for your advice!

I downloaded latest version 4.4.7 from the CKEditor site (http://ckeditor.com/) and it works great :-)
Now I can start exploring which features I want with it.
Looks like CKFinder is a nice add-on too (http://cksource.com/ckfinder).

Thanks again!
