No sound in Tablet 'responsive' version

Post by mrwillow » Tue Aug 07, 2018 8:39 am

Hi, I have domain recently gone live (www.theavenuemotionpicturecompany.com) and for now there is the one home page. On this home page there is a sound effect (a single thumping drum beat). I am using Web Builder 14 with a responsive design. When viewing on the actual internet, the drum beat audio plays on the default/standard (1000px) web and mobile phone (320px) displays, but not on the ipad-setting (768px) display. Having contacted my host, they said the issue is not with them. Please advise, DC

What browser are you using? If if happens to be Chrome then this will explain. Chrome has took it apon themselves to block any audio that auto starts when the browser launches. It also effects any videos that auto start playing audio as well. Note this has nothing to do with the software but with 'Google' so there is no 'fix' as only 'Google/Chrome' can resolve by removing this limitation.
If using the Safari browsers (Apple) then it will be related to the browser as it may be not support the audio format you have used for example oog. Another reason is Safari blocks auto start on audio on moblie to save on bandwidth load on mobile browsers even though you may have a unlimited data plan. See the following for what audio formats can be used for each browser.

Also note that you have added (invalid) HTML code to the page, so this may confuse the browser.

Code: Select all

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
      xmlns:og="http://ogp.me/ns#"
      xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml">

Hi Pablo,

Thank you for getting back.

The tablet is an ipad. The audio file is mp3, if this makes a difference to your "oog" comment?

Yes, the (invalid) HTML code is a copy & paste from my other website, intended to aid Facebook debugger and the thumbnail published when the page's link is posted on Facebook, etc.. Do I simply delete the lines you have specifically highlighted, or something more, or replace with, etc.?

Thank you,

DC

The whole of the code in question is:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:og="http://ogp.me/ns#"
xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml">

<!-- Facebook Open Graph Meta Tags -->
<meta property="og:locale" content="it_IT"/>
<meta property="og:title" content="The Avenue Motion Picture Company" />
<meta property="og:type" content="video" />
<meta property="og:url" content="http://www.theavenuemotionpicturecompany.com/index.html" />
<meta property="og:image" content="http://www.theavenuemotionpicturecompan ... _On_BG.png" />
<meta property="og:site_name" content="http://www.theavenuemotionpicturecompany.com/index.html" />
<meta property="og:description" content="Film & Video Production" />

It is not correct. It makes the entire page invalid.

As Pablo's answer...... :? WWB already generates it's own <html> tag and the code you are adding adds a second which will break the page and how it works. You can see this in the following screenshot with the <html> tag generated by WWB first and then the one by yourself.

If you really think you need the code inside the <html> then you can try this add a HTML Object to the page, open add the following

Code: Select all

xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
xmlns:og="http://ogp.me/ns#"
xmlns:fb="http://www.facebook.com/2008/fbml
and from the drop down select <html> now close, and for the meta tags use the following
Page Properties and inserting into Meta Tags>Meta Tags>User Define Now you will only have one <html> tag and the meta tags inserted.
