A classic example of "a picture is worth a 1000 words" !

thanks! I read so much on the internet that I can tell when it's better to follow the rule "show me, don't tell me". Of course, you gotta take the time and patience to prepare the image (and have the software). Glad it helped :D

Great picture ConsciouS!
And for anyone who thinks this picture is useful, but finds that they have to bookmark it as they still can't remember which one is on the outside and which is inside... I always think of those padded cells you see in prisons/asylums on TV - the padding is on the inside :D

I certainly hope you are not talking from experience!

Haha. No!
Although, the longer you work in an office environment, the less it feels that different! :D

ha ha ha.....I had a really great art teacher way back in high school who taught us memory tricks. They're called 'mnemonics'. The padded walls analogy is good. That's exactly how I think about Padding vs Margin. The word padding sounds like a soft pillow or something, "...put some padding on it...". As far as margin, not so much comes to mind, except

profit margin
win by a margin
border/edge of something

After a while, I got used to it from using it so much. Padding (inside). Margin (outside) :D
