WWB-14-02

Post by alex4orly » Sun May 20, 2018 9:33 am

Downloaded and paid for the upgrade
My project now has a major problem
I have many pages with a Flexbox and a Blog object inside the Flexbox, but the settings of Flexbox have changed:
In version 12 it was for the Flexbox container:
Misc size : Undefined
Position : Floating
In version 14 the parameters have changed :
Height :
Position :
Semantic tag:

My Blog object spills outside of the Flexbox and out of the page, have no idea what should the setting be.

Help please

Version 14 has the same settings as version 12.
'Size' has been renamed to 'Height'.

To be able to help you with your problem, I need to know what you have done exactly.

In version 12 there were 2 arguments to configure
In version 14 there now 3 arguments not just a name change.
The existing options have the same behavior, they now just have more standardized names.
The new option is documented in the help.
What i did? Downloaded installed an opened the project... nothing else
I meant, how did you use the options in WB12?

Could you please be more specific so I can try to help you solve this, as I have always done with your previous queries.

OK, have a look at this link : http://www.beleuramyhome.org.au/ourtravels.html
There is a grid, in the right hand side column is a FlexBox, inside it I inserted a Blog object
The setup of the FlexBox is : row, nowarp, flex-start, flex-start, center - then : size: undefined, Position : floating
The Blog itself is set as flex-grow: 1, flex-shrink:1, flex-basis : 30%, align-self: center
You set it up for me at the time...

Can you please send me the project file (of this page only) so I can see the problem myself?
WB14 has many changes related to flexbox to make it more compliandt with the latest HTML specification. We may have previously used a 'hack 'that is no longer supported and it needs to be approached differently.
Or maybe it is just an application setting. I need the project to find out what has happened.

Thanks for sharing your project file.
The problem is not related to the Flex Container, but to the blog.
In previous version the blog always had a fixed height, this was not correct behavior because it should expand when used in a layout grid or flex container.
So, this 'bug' has been fixed in WB14.

However, in your case I understand that you want the blog to have a fixed height.
To make that possible you will have to add the following code in TravelBlog1 -> Object HTML -> Custom style:

Code: Select all

height: 587px
then it will work the same as in WB12.

Please be aware however that the iPad/iPhone may ignore this because it does not support having a second scroll bar on the page.

OK, this works on this particular page, BUT:

1) How do I measure the required height on other pages with the same problem?
2) If it doesn't work on iPad etc... what other option do I have to achive the desired behaviour?

Thanks again

You can set the height of the blog in the Property Inspector or in the status bar.
If it doesn't work on iPad etc... what other option do I have to achive the desired behaviour?
I have just tested this on my iPad and it seems to work now, so apparently Apple has recently changed this.

In the property inspector, the size is already set to 290,587
but it seems I still need to insert the custom code - height: 587px
Why?
Whout should now be the FlexBox settings for the 3 parameters?
Thanks

Why?
Because the height of a blog object (and most other objects) is variable, based on the width of it's container.
So, this height is only relevant when the blog is used in fixed layout mode.
