New Web Site Creation

Post by GPK5050 » Thu Apr 26, 2018 4:09 pm

Hi all...

I am new to this program and web building and new a little guidance.

I have created a basic website with a home page using a Master Frame. There are 6 pages that I would like the content to seen in the Content Place Holder in the Master Frame. When I preview the site, the first page that shows is the Master Frame with nothing in the content place holder. When I click on the "Home" button, the content place holder is filled with the correct information. So, I guess I need to know is how to get it to show the home content the first time.

Also, is there a way to have a music player on the master frame that is not always reset when a new CSS Menu button is selected.

Thank you in advance.

Greg

I assume that the master frame is not the home page? The master frame itself should not be part of the website, it only used during design time So, it should not be in the navigation..

No, the browser will reload the page when you go to another page.

Hi...

Thank you for your help. But I'm a little confused. Under site Manager I've got Master Frame, Home, Registration, Hotel Information, Agenda, Money Pool and About Us. Each of them is a separate page within the site. Do I need to change the page properties of the Master Frame?

Thanks..

Greg

I'm sorry, to be able to help you I need to see what you have done.
The only page that should have no content is the master frame.

Can you please share your project so I can tell what is wrong?

- upload the project file to your website or another public server
- share the link

To better assist you, please remove all non-relevant content from the project so I do not have to spend a long time trying to figure out where to look for the problem.

Hi...

So this is the original 1 page website that is up now:

http://www.carpenters50th.com/

This is what I just uploaded, but it did not replace the original. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks...

The master frame should not be published. The master frame does not have content, it is just a 'frame'. It is only used as 'master' for other pages.
So, what you see is normal behavior.
Did you expect to see something different?

Hi...

I want the site to open to the Home page when they go to www.carpenters50th.com, not the blank master frame. I don't know how to change that.

Thanks...

You will need to name the home page 'index'. This is the 'landing' page of the server.

Hi...

Sorry to be so "dumb" about this, but that did not work. I changed the page I had called home to index and that did nothing to change the landing page.

Any other suggestions?

It should be index.html not Index.html Note it is also advisable to use lowercase for all page naming.
In general this should be used for all file naming see the following:

The master frame is not the home page, it is just a 'helper' page that defines the 'frame' for all pages.
It is not common to publish the master frame page. The 'frame' will be merged with content pages, the result will be one page (content + frame), the master frame is only used during design time.

The home page (the first first page of the website) should be named 'index'. (this is a requirement of web servers and it is true for all web design applications)
The 'index' page will be created by default in the Site Manager. This page can also make use of the master frame.

If this is still not clear then can please be more specific which part you need more information about?

Hi...

Now it's a screwed up. The preview won't work like it did before!

Is there anyway to talk or to do a screen share to get this problem fixed?

Thank you...

Greg

What exactly did you change?
What do you see when you preview?
