YouTube play button color

Post by Itab » Mon Mar 19, 2018 4:00 pm

Hi All,

The YouTube play button (autoplay=off) is normally gray and changes to red on hover.
This makes it hard to see when there is an image under it and visitors, especially on
a mobile device, may not realize that this is a video and not a picture.

Is it possible to change the color of the button to red at all times?

I found the button object in HTML: "ytp-large-play-button-bg" which is painted gray
with fill="#212121" and want to change it to fill="#FF0000" but don't know where and
how to do it.

Can anyone help?

Regards, Igor

You can't directly in the software, but you will be able to do so by using a HTML Editor like Notepad++. Note If you make any changes later in the software then this will get overwritten.

YouTube videos are displayed inside an inline frame and the appearance is controlled by YouTube, so I do not think you can modify the style.

Youtube buttons (red) of various sizes are available from Youtube.
Instead of using the Youtube extension supplied with the software place a relevant image on the page with a red button on top. Put the link to youtube into the html of the button object and use button effects to animate or highlight on hover. Takes a bit more effort but you're in control.
