Deleting files on server

Post by GrahamW » Tue Jan 09, 2018 7:27 am

is there a way so when you either change a file name or delete a page in your site design it will also remove the redundant files from the server.
I'm finding I have to FTP into it with a separate program to manage the files

The software will never remove any files from the server. It would be to risky to do this automatically because the software does not know where each file is for.
For example you may have used third party extensions or external scripts, which would stop working if the files were removed.

A quick way to find out which files are redundant may be to look at the dates of the files on the server.

That's what I do.
Log onto the server and then use cPanel (or equivalent) then File Manager and click the relevant date column to sort.

You can use the "Publish" tool to explore your files on the server to. When choosing the correct profile in the "Publsih" window, click on "Explore" in the right pane of the publish window. Here you can manage the files to. But it's always good to have a good FTP client also.
