Looking for pointers on scrolling text vertically like a ticker tape

Post by Magical » Sat Dec 30, 2017 7:13 pm

Greetings

Looking for any pointers on scrolling text on the main page over an image. The text would scroll slowly forwards with new lines appearing at the bottom and then scrolling up, it would be cyclic meaning after the last line the first will display and so on.

Also the text will need to come from a text file which will be uploaded daily with the latest deals or quotes; worked out that mechanism, a batch process runs on the main server and spits out a file.

I know this maybe a bit much for wysiwyg as the site would then be dynamic. I am just trying to avoid writing an application and see if it can be achieved within the framework.

Just looking for directions. Thanking you in advance for your help.

Have a Happy New Year.

Although it doesn't use a text file have you considered using the Marquee and set to scroll vertical. If this is not suitable then you will have to implement this yourself with a external script.

I was just thinking the same thing BaconFries.
I'm sure there's a better way but you could use the javascript generated by the built-in WWB Marquee (selecting Direction UP).
If you have control over the routine that writes the text file then just include the javascript round the actual text and then use an iframe (or something else?) to point to the file. Might work!

As WWBman it could be controlled by javascript. At the moment I am still on holiday/vacation and have no access ( I do but have decided not to) to a PC. I believe I have something that will do what you asked, I am not back till next week and will need a couple of days to get over jet lag but will post here if I find the script.

Thanks guys,

There is no rush on this. Just one of the items for 2018.

Yes I have 100% control over the generation of the text file. I can also generate it as xml if that make mapping any easier.

Just a side note - I don't see a marquee object in my toolbox. Is that an extension i need to download and install? (still learning)

Is the marquee responsive? If not I can always hide it. I don't want to set an unrealistic expectation.

I don't use the Ribbon user interface but for the Menu/Toolbar it's Insert > Marquee.

Until BaconFries has returned you might like to try the following.
It is a rehash of one of the Marquee extensions and can be downloaded from:
