How to Prevent automatic Audio & Video file download

Post by kfi4all » Thu Jan 12, 2017 12:12 pm

Greetings to All WBB users on board for another New year (2017).

Well, i have a problem, trying to prevent site users from making
efforts to download my audio and video files without authorization.
How do i achieve this?

all elements that are visible on your page are downloadable in some way or another
if the visitor sees them, is because they already are in his computer cache

The only way to prevent files from being downloaded is by putting them in a secure section of your website. For example, in a password protected folder on the server.

Thanks Pablo. I also thought of that before now; just thinking if there
are other solutions to this problem of preventing users from downloading
media files without authorization.

Came across this example from Navaldesign. Will post url to page in question if you think could be useful.

It may also be possible using a . htaccess file see the following

Hi KF,

If you are using the HTML5 object to embed your videos I'm wondering if you could use the old trick of preventing image downloads (at least by natural mouse right click) by adding an invisible object in front of the download arrow - just needs to be an invisible shape (Published as CSS3 if you want to make it responsive) .
Yours truly

As with any content, if it plays in the browser, it can be downloaded or extracted. With a screen capture program if necessary. Many may be deterred by certain measures eg prevent right click but they would only make me more determined to save it
by other means. You may be able to embed a third party video/audio host script (not Youtube which can be easily circumvented) which hides the url of the original file and at least deters the download of the original file.

I have the same problem too, I disabled the right mouse button with the script.
I put the movies in mp4 player with html. But on some browsers they can be downloaded and I would like to avoid,
browsers as
Chrome
Opera
UC browser

On the player there is the button to download. There is a way to avoid it?
Thank you.

If the browser can display the video then the user can also download the video. There is no way to prevent this because in order to play the video it must be downloaded to the computer first.
Even if you stream the video it is still possible to save it to disk.

It is useless disabling right click. Chrome has many extensions that can save localy pdf, mp3, mp4, flv, jpeg, etc.
