Editbox and TextArea Character limiter extension - 10/8/2013

Post by supersonictt »

Editbox and TextArea Character limiter (Form Field Limiter)
This extension displays how many characters are left in Editbox and TextArea.
It has a lot of customization like when limit is reached, border color will be changed.

Developer
The original script is developed by Dynamic Drive. here is the link: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicinde ... tinput.htm
For other users and extension makers: As you can see in this thread, permission must be granted from Dynamic Drive to use their scripts in extensions. Pablo and other users noted that and I asked Dynamic Drive for permission in which they accepted it under their legal conditions.

Installation and customization
Drag and drop the extension. Double click on it and customize its properties.
It is straight forward, each property has its description.

Notes
You can use more than one instance of the extension, BUT the status text and it is styling will be the same for all instances, as this is stored in the javascript file.
If you need any help, please post here.

A special thanks for Pablo, BaconFries and bendigo for pointing out the licensing notes by Dynamic Drive.

Enjoy :)

As far as I remember due to licensing issues you are not allowed to post exits that
contain code from DD. please check with BaconFries or Pablo.

I think it's best if you contact Dynamic Drive to ask for their permissions.
It's a useful extension so hopefully they agree.

I received an email from DD granting permission to use the script in the extension.

Pablo, BaconFries and bendigo,

Thank you so much for helping regarding licensing notes by Dynamic Drive :)
The extension is now renamed to "Form Field Limiter" to match Dynamic Drive's original script name.

Enjoy :)

Great stuff! is this only for this script or DD scripts in general?

Well, am not really sure, but they replied with this:
"Hi:
Sure, as long as the original copyright notice appears inside the script.

Good luck!"
So I guess they don't mind using their scripts as long as the original copyright notice appears inside the script, but I prefer you contact them if you intend to make an extension ;)

Thanks. I have already made several extensions that I use for myself and was thinking of releasing them but I think will leave it as I cannot be bothered.
