Quicksand Portfolio [FREE] for WWB8+

Quicksand is a simplified version of Razorjack's Quicksand jQuery plugin and is designed to filter an unordered list by selecting filter items from another list. So this extension is ideal to use as a portfolio device or a navigational tool...or both.

Go straight to the Quicksand demo page.

And NO..there are no plans to add RazorJack's sorting facility. What you see is what you get!

Read the help file fully before asking for support. :)

Hey fella,

Well, let me know how you get on with it.

The originator and a couple of other sites using it state that it needs a doc type of html5 but I forgot to do that in my demo and it's working fine. So let me know if you find any issues.

Thank you for sharing this.

Yes, that is possible. I just need to make a small change to the code and add a property. I won't be able to get to this for a few days as I have been out of the country (and no internet) for several weeks. But I'll update as soon as I can.

Version 1.0.0.1 uploaded.

I have added a new property in section 02 called Full List Name and that has an editable option property that shows a few common languages such as English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish etc. for the word 'all' but you can edit the value anyway so any language can be used.

I can see from all the above that people are finding this easy and workable.

For me not so much. Easy - yes but I cannot get it to work and have followed all the instructions but must have missed something because it just doesn't filter

See attached images
Have only ever changed 02 and 04.
04 we didn't put in a text link ( what is the purpose of this as the instructions do not say )
Images are not set at 200 because we are just looking at the operation not the look.

Selecting filters in the browser in preview mode - nothing happens but the hover colours and selection colours DO change
Selecting the hyperlink (text ) throws open a duplicate page.
Tried it in HTML 4.01 and 5. In 5 even less works as the hyperlink stays inactive.

Running Win7 and Chrome / Firefox latest editions.

Is this another one of those wysiwyg things that only work after you publish or have we missed something here?

Your comment not understood. We HAVE downloaded the extension.
That is how we know that we cannot get it to work.

Do you mean do I have a link ( url ) to the site?
If that is yes then .. as I have said before ... we have not published the site yet so is the problem because of this OR should the extension work in "preview in browser"

I would need to see your project file. Either post a zip file here or email me from my support page and I'll email you back so you can then email the project to me.

Simply change your page properties to use jQuery 1.7.2 on the page Games_0.html.

Page tab, Page Properties, Miscellaneous Tab, Advanced, jQuery version - set to 1.7.2

:)

Quicksand problems in preview

Strange problem with preview of Quicksand
The correct settings appear when it previews the page by itself HOWEVER ---------- use the whole site option and it just reverts to the default settings.

Is it the addon or the main program?

while I'm here --- if you are not using the text as a link , how can you resolve to eliminate the underline. It shows without in the documentation but I can never get that look in reality.

Davidpratthk,

OK, I've now been able to [a] preview a Quicksand page, publish a Quicksand page locally, [c] publish a whole project locally and [d] publish to the server and I cannot replicate your issue. I am using WWB9.04. So it isn't the extension or WWB.

As for the underline - again I can't replicate that.

Sorry!

OK, I will put it on the back burner whilst we get all our content up on the server and judge it then.

Davidpratthk,

OK, let me know by posting in THIS THREAD if you have any further issues. If necessary we can connect via Teamviewer and I can inspect you page/project from here...done that a lot recently!!

OK, so now we are on the server and problems persist.
The one that I need to address is ( what seems to be ) the inability for changes to occur in the layout properties even though they are applied and I can see the change in one of the previews.
This does not translate to a server update, no matter what I seem to do.
So Quicksand 1.0.0.1, WB9.1.3 JQuery 1.7.2 HTML4.01
I have tried updating , publish changed files only, HTML Only and a full publish. I have tried just to change the page through filezilla. Nada nothing. I have emptied the chache, rebooted the computer and even looked at the site from another computer , nada nothing.
Very strange
Preview page only is what it SHOULD look like and mirrors the page properties
However if you Preview whole site the result is completely different

You can see in the server http://tutorempire.com/All_In_ONE.html that the result is not as properties and is as it was originally designer in the build up stage 1.

Over to you.

Subsequent actions by doing a FULL install with the WB publish resulted in no change.

Have done a FULL install ( overwrite ) using Filezilla and the previous incarnation has gone and now shows as Preview Whole Site.
neither should be the case because properties are still as Preview One Page.

The easiest way for me to resolve this is to see your project file. Email me via my site and I will email you back so you have my address.

Just use one of the contact forms on either site and send an email. Once I have that I will email you back and you will then have my email address and can reply with a zip file attached.

EXTRACTED FROM AN EMAIL TO DAVID - THIS CONTAINED SEVERAL IMAGES

David,

I am not entirely sure that I understand exactly what your problem is. I’ve re-read your forum posts several times now and it is still not clear.....I think you are saying the following:-

In preview mode you see the navigation elements correctly styled? But when you publish you are seeing something different.

And that alone is confusing as in the extension you have SOMEHOW managed to set the Filter Box Content Font (section 3) and Content Font (Section 5) to “Articulate Light” which is not in the list of fonts that are allowed to be used in the extension – how did you manage that? Have you hacked into the extension?

I have edited your page and all works as expected WHEN USING VALID FONTS... I resized and set some different values but you can see it all does what it should (screen grab in email)

And I added this code to the page to remove the underline on the links (for this page only).

Code: Select all

<style type="text/css">
a {text-decoration:none !important;}
</style>

I can’t edit and save the page for you as I am using the latest version of WWB. So you need to make the same edits I have. After editing and previewing you should publish the SELECTED PAGE ONLY to your server. As well as the html page it is important that the quicksand.css file is uploaded and the jquery.quicksand.js file as BOTH of these contain the edited settings that control the look and functionality of the extension.

So in summary – as far as I can tell your problems are related to specifying a font that is not allowed and probably not uploading the css and/or the js files needed.

Try again.

Hi, I can not make "quicksand" extension function. I do not understand what's wrong ... I've done what it says in the pdf. Everything is displayed, but when I click on a category, nothing happens. No movement, no loss of product that does not match the selected category ... I'm in WWB9
Is there a downloadable example, to test and to try to understand where this wrong?
Thank you for your help. Happy New Year 2014!

Make sure your page properties are set to use jQuery 1.7.2.

This was built before WWB9 came along, which defaults to 1.9.1

I just tried extensions and I see the same behavior as on the demo page.
So, the animation works when I switching from ALL to CLASS and from CLASS to ALL. When I switching from CLASS to CLASS animation doesn't work.
