Not sure if you can help. I have put this site together http://www.m-o-r-g-a-n.co.uk/Emergency_Osteo and tried to get one of the smooth scroll extensions to work in Firefox. If you go http://www.m-o-r-g-a-n.co.uk/Emergency_ ... ments.html and click on (Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) it stops in the wrong place, this version is using Smooth Scroll 2. This link is using your extension http://www.m-o-r-g-a-n.co.uk/Emergency_ ... ments.html and gives the same result.

They both work a treat in IE and Chrome so I recon I must be doing something wrong. Any help greatly received.

Previous help see viewtopic.php?f=42&t=36348&start=15#p203137

Thanks Dan

PS Server seems very shaky so may not load. I will get on to the hosting company.
Hi Scott

Re: Ultimate Page Scroller - Extension (UPDATED)

Post by morgan »

Big thanks to Scott as it's all sorted.

Anybody want to test it just to be sure, click on the panel to the right or go to the treatments page.

http://www.m-o-r-g-a-n.co.uk/Emergency_Osteo/index.html

Here is the solution

1 – No spaces allowed in ‘bookmarks’ names when using firefox. E.g. (not allowed = Repetitive Strain Injuries / allowed = RepetitiveStrainInjuries).

2 – When using Large blocks of text (like you’re block of text on the ‘ailments’ page), right click text and click properties, tick the ‘Optimize text for firefox/safari’.

3 – When using Large blocks of text, its best to hit ENTER after every line instead of allowing it to auto start a new line. (see below example).

4 – After you have done the above (No.3), highlight the text block and drag the right hand side middle dragger (like you would to stretch an image object to make it wider) and make sure there is a 1-2cm gap from the end of you’re text.

Text example (for Large text blocks):

This is a example test to(ENTER)
See if this thing works or(ENTER)
Or not.

Cheers Morgan;
As for your page scroll, it works for me on FF 6.0 however your back to top does not scroll. Am I understanding this right to be the problem? (I have not followed this thread fully)If you place your back to top within the page that is contained in the iFrame, it will scroll.

You need to add a "Back to the top" at the end of each paragraph. like this:

Hi Bendigo
How does this look, it works ok in IE and Chrome but FF cant display the arrow symbol.

http://www.m-o-r-g-a-n.co.uk/Emergency_ ... ments.html

I have left the Back to top link in for now for any FF users.

Any help to sort this would be appreciated as I still have all the seo stuff to do.

Scott, I am sure all the bookmarks work ok now, your tweeks worked perfect.

It work great. apart from the "e" with the accent on top. Try using the little bitmap. I was going to suggest using the marlett font but then again your mac people might not be able to see it correctly.

Hi morgan if your needing to use accents in letters then you may need to use the unicode version of WB to achieve this and use Character set Unicode(UTF-8) for it to display correctly...before havig to try this with the unicode set the character set in WB to Unicode(UTF-8) and see if that helps....

Can this be used with an inline frame. Example you have your index page with navigation and inline frame. You have page2, which shows in frame, and you have your book marks on page 2.

Use with Iframe

I see some reports of this one working with Iframes. Is there anything special that needs to be done? I've tried Menu Bar and Text Menu alongside the Iframe. The bookmarks come up fine, just no scrolling. Am I missing something obvious?

Hi mbrowne, I might guess that it runs into problems if you have the navigation on the main page with the Iframe rather than on the page you are loading into the I frame. But I don't know. Maybe someone else will chime in :)

Hi BF, Hope your feeling better :)

Thanks for the heads up, ive taken a look and im using jquery-1.4.2.min in the extension but I cannot find what version the menu bar is using because all its outputting is jscookmenu.js.....ive try'd the other jquery built in extensions in wb and they seem to use what im using jquery-1.4.2.min.js so i cannot understand how come it does not read the js, even when its disabled.

Ive even try'd to insert the jquery into a seperate folder but that again does not work with the built in menu bar. I always tend to use the disable jquery in my extensions just incase there is any other jquery scripts active within code. so ive come up against a brick wall.

Whats your thought BF? im gonna keep looking at it....

Hi Ok this is a bit of a puzzle :? I have test one of my extensions that ues jQuery 1.4.2 along with the menubar and they both work together...:) ok lets try this first, in the extension builder you can select to use jQuery... so lets remove the jQuery that the scroller script uses ie 1.4.2 and just use the jQuery from the extension builder. if that fails let me know and if you want to send on the extension and all it bits and bobs I will take a look and get back to you might take a day or two as I am trying to help out on another extension, but please try what I suggested....there may be another way round this it involves modifying the jQuery but we can try that later....

hi bendigo (SUB,BaconFries),

it won't work with the menubar because of the way jscookmenu.js is set up
the init. of the menubar structure occurs on page render, it dynamically construct a table upon a list structure (=cmDraw)
the <a> href value is taken from the list and instead opens with a window.open function
jQuery localscroll acts on the html <a> href, so … there is no href and therefore no scroll occurs
it's the same as using an event to request the scroll –- window.open('#bookmark1','_self') –- won't work either
actually after jscookmenu init. there is no reference of the menubar list structure at all ...

nothing unstable about your extension SUB ... jscook is just cooking his own menu . .

Hi Scott

Not sure if this is possible, I want to use the scroller with a fixed panel on the left. If you were to click say Home Networking on the blue panel it would scroll to the correct text on the right leaving the list where it is. I Hope this makes sence.

Hi Morgan, Yes that is possible, its not part of the basic layer structure but there is a workaround, heres a few steps to get you going...

1) Create a Docking Layer, dock top, alignment:center and make the background transparent. Make sure the width is the same as your page width (in page properties) and that the height of the docking layer is high enough for your menu block to go in.
2) Insert a shape onto that layer followed by your text menu.
3) Create a Default Layer and place were you would like your content to be placed (to the right of your menu), make sure the default layer is 'on top' of the docking layer.
4) insert your bookmarks and the ultimate page scroller extension and insert your hyperlinks to match the bookmarks in your text menu.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on...

@SUB

Thanks for this workaround, but I am still not sure I got you right...

Let me make it simple, if I have a menu on the left of 3 text items (Pane 1, Panel 2, and Panel 3), and on the right where the panel is contains three description text items (description of panel 1, description of panel 2, description of panel 3).
Now, I followed your instructions, until step 4. Where do I place the "description" text items?

By the way I found this:
http://demos.flesler.com/jquery/localScroll/#section1
I guess this is what I need, but am not sure how to do it with your extension.

Thanks a lot.

Hi, i'm not really sure what you mean......do you mean the menu text?

Step 4 is the 'menu text' to link your text to your anchors/bookmarks via the text properties

SUB, thanks a lot for replying back.

Well, I opened a new page (index.html) of 1000 px width, then i placed a docking layer of 1000 px width and 300 px height, docking top with centre alignment. Then I placed a rectangle of 150 px width and 250 px height inside the docking panel, and a "text menu" inside this shape.
After that I placed a default layer inside the docking layer, on the right of that rectangle shape and on top of the docking layer.
Now, my question is, before I assign the bookmarks, where do I place the text that will slide inside the default panel?

Thanks.

Hi,

Place your text (sliding content) on the default panel as in step 3.

Make sure your 'default layer' is overlapping the 'docking layer' and not inside.

Hope this helps,

If in the text menu I have 3 links (red, blue, green), how do I place the description text in the default layer? I mean, under each other? or next to each other!!
Sorry but am still a bit confused!

Hi,

The steps I gave was for a vertical scrolling page as Morgan requesting help with...

Place your 'description text' inside the 'default layer' underneath each other.
add your bookmarks (inside the default layer) to the start of each of the 'description text'
then link your menu to the bookmarks/anchors you have just placed.

Hi, a couple of things to take note...

Your page was not centered in page properties, therefore the 'default layer' was not in place because of the centered 'docked layer'.

Your 'default layer' was inside of your 'docked layer' and not overlapping making it not funcional.
