prettyPhoto is totally free to use, it is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.5. So you can use it in all you projects even commercial ones. You can also use the extension more than once on your page if you choose to do so..giving you the abilty to have different galleries for example one for lets say flowers one for sunsets etc etc ..

Like WB 7 you will be able to download usermade extensions from the Extension Manager aslo, as you may be aware WB8 is in development, and will be released when ready, at the moment no details can be released as this would only spoil the suprise, (Sworn to Secrecy) but believe me it is going to be worth the wait thats all I can say....
