Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 07/06/11***
Actually, now that I am reading the updates on the first page of this topic:
http://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/forum/view ... 42&t=21331
And then also reading on two of Google's web-pages:
1) http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html
2) http://code.google.com/apis/maps/docume ... avascript/
Now I'm wondering: do we even use an extension to use Google Maps in WB8 anymore? If we do, I used an older version of the Maps extension that you made, BaconFries, but now I am wanting to make sure I have the newest version of the Google Maps Extension, if we are still to use one. Where is the download link for it?

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 07/06/11***
The Google map extension available does use API v3 it also does not require you to insert a API Key as previous versions of the map...this is documented in the very first post oif the extension. So the urls that you pointed me to are exactly what the map has been using since 07/06/11 it was origibally made for version 7.x.x but it will work it WB8
From the first page
This version of the google map was built with Extension builder 2.6.0 and is for WB 7.x.x
Google Maps Javascript API Version 3
"I ask that all users update to this version of the extension as Google maps v2 official Javascript API has been officially deprecated as per Googles deprecation policy."
Please note that this is no longer a translated version but a total rebuild of the map using the latest API.
The Google Maps Javascript API lets you embed Google Maps in your own web pages. Version 3 of this API is especially designed to be faster and more applicable to mobile devices, as well as traditional desktop browser applications.

Ok, thanks, BaconFries.
But now I am wondering where the download link is for the extension? I tried going to:
http://wysiwygwebbuilder.com/extensions.html
But I am not seeing it there. Here is a screenshot of the "Google Map" extensions I have that are, I believe, hold-overs from previous versions of WB I had, and I am not sure if I have the most current Google Maps extension or not. AND I am not sure which one is yours, BaconFries, because I think I downloaded one or more that were other Google Map extensions. Here's an image:

Download For Web Builder 7.6.3 and Higher/Extension Builder 2.6.0 avaiable in Extension Manager under Miscellaneous>Google Maps APIv3
Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 07/06/11***
I've opened the sample wbs file you made, and so it's a little clearer on how it all works.BaconFries wrote:Please ensure that you are uploading all files to your host/server, it seems that you are missing the googlemap.html, if this isnt on your host the pop up wont display it ...the way it works is like this:
The map is displayed in a iframe on that page that you have inserted it on, this means that there will be two HTML pages, one for the page the extension is on. and another for the map HTML (googlemap.html) itself. So If you add a text link to one page and are calling the map from another page then there will be now 3 HTML files that you are needed to make it work
1. HTML page for the text link
2. HTML page you have the map extension on this contains a iframe with the map HTML.
3. And finally the maps HTML page itself googlemaps.html
I have made a example wbs to show this that will include all three html pages required to make it work.
However, I'm still unclear as to how we actually create the googlemaps.html file. Is this something we create? Is it some sort of file you get form Google's system somehow by entering a query of coordinates for a given latitude/longitude or whatever..?
The address I'm trying to get to work on Google Maps is
1155 NE 28th Street Fort Worth TX, 76106 (in the United States)
Its latitude and longitude coordinates are
32.7952027
-97.3400177
respectively.
This is the page of my WB8 website on which I am just trying to place 3 Google Maps that show this address:
http://willbanksmetals.com/contact.php
But I'm obviously missing something. Here's how I've configured the "Google Maps V3 Properties" on my page there:
What am I missing? I'm pretty sure it's something with googlemaps.html . I've not uploaded anything else for it beyond just entering those coordinates in my "Properties" of my Google Maps V3 Properties.

Please try not bump a question... I will always try to answer any questions related to my extensions as quick as possible...but I do have a life away from the forum..
I have tried the lat and long that you gave with a icon and it works for me...
To use the extension just drag & drop to the page you wish it on, to obtain the lat&long cordinates visit one of the following urls and enter the details of the location that you wish to be displayed in the map, then enter into the lat and long properties
http://www.getlatlon.com/
http://backups.nl/geocoding/ The zoom level is just to show the ariel view distance the will be shown of the location the smaller the number the closer the ariel view will be to the location view on the map If you wish to use a maker to show the position of thr location of the lat7long you can use this, you can use your own image(png) or you can download a premade selection from the following
Download link for Map markers ONLY this does not contain the extension.
http://www.mediafire.com/?6e9w1bt2mm22cu9 If you wish to use more than one map in your site then you will need to give each map its own unique name, this is so that you do not override any other map/s that you have already created with the extension. The extension will create the googlemap.html for you or if you require more that one you would nename this to Example:googlemap1.html or mylocation.html or wearehere.html...or what ever you wish....aslong as each map used has its own unique name.....

*Sigh* well, I'm an idiot. (That should be news to nobody, by now). I had the latitude and longitude backwards *facepalm*. I made that SAME mistake the FIRST time I used previous version(s) of your extension, too.
Thank you BaconFries--your abilities are humbling to me. You do such a great job.

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 07/06/11***
Hey BaconFries, wanted to ask you something about the Map.
It's working very well for me, but I wanted to ask you about something.
Here's the page where my 3 maps are located:
http://willbanksmetals.com/contact.php
Any idea why my little red pointer isn't showing up? I know that when I first put up this extension, the pointers were showing up and everything. Both me and my client noticed that, early on. But for some reason, they are either not showing up now, or they *do* show up, and just take a long time to load.
http://s393104911.onlinehome.us/red-dot.png
Any ideas no how to ensure they will load, and then ensure they load faster..?

Ok please ensure that the image/pin that you use is saved as a websafe format, second when using the image insert the shadow.png along with image /pin you wish to use and se if that helps.

Any idea why this instance of Google Maps isn't working for me? I copy/pasted it from one of my other .WBS project files, and then just changed the Longitude and Latitude values to this new address, and then changed some of the names:
http://ktravisj.com/alex/contactus.php
Just doesn't seem to display..? Whereas, the web-page that DOES display the Google Maps instance from where copy/pasted works fine, it's here:

Why did you not simply just use the extension again instead of copy and pasting from another project? I have looked at both urls and the clue/answer is in the naming! one url is poiting to a folder were one isnt! try placing the googlemap.html in the relevert folder and it should work
<iframe style="position:absolute;width:300px;height:300px" src="googlemaps.html" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>

No your are not missing anything, the extension can only be downloaded and installed via the "Extension Manager" for users of WYSIWYG Web Builder 8 and higher. Also note if you have any questions related to this extension, then you should post it at this thread, were if I can answer it I will.

I Install this extension using "Extension Manager" in WYSIWYG Web Builder 8.5.1. I get standard message "Installed", all files is in directories. But I don`t show this extension in Extension list. I am sorry, but I cant explain why it is not showing in your copy, as you can see from the screenshot it is showing as it should with my copy. Please try the following, remove the extension using the extension manager,close WB, reopen WB and install the extension again, then let me know.
Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 07/06/11***
I delete all extensions and rename extensions and download directory in WWB user system directory.BaconFries wrote:I am sorry, but I cant explain why it is not showing in your copy, as you can see from the screenshot it is showing as it should with my copy. Then restart, install only Google Maps and the same - I don`t show Extension menu and any extension,
If I install next extensions I see this Extensions.

Hi Baconfries,
I just upgraded to version 8.5 Web Builder
If I upgrade to the latest version Google maps how will that affect the maps on sites created in V7 web builder?
On my website I have 60+ maps on many different pages, will I have to re-input all the info or can I just upgrade to latest map version & all the old maps will automatically work when I load the site in V8?

It shouldnt have any effect, the extension was only updated with the latest version of the builder as it was found some userscouldnt instal the extension in WB8.5.If I upgrade to the latest version Google maps how will that affect the maps on sites created in V7 web builder?
Good question, this has never been asked. I would make a full backup of your project saving a copy of the previous extension, then just try this on a single page before doing it to all pages. I cant say for definate but all should be ok, I have also renamed the extension so you will need to remove all prvious versions before youe...thia is mention nat the start of thread.On my website I have 60+ maps on many different pages, will I have to re-input all the info or can I just upgrade to latest map version & all the old maps will automatically work when I load the site in V8?
Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
Hi Baconfries,
fyi.....I have to re-input the old map data as it does not seem to recognize the old version (yes I did remove the old Google maps before installing)
Actually this is not such a big deal as I'm undergoing a site re-design so re-inputting the map info is not a big issue at this time.

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
Hi Baconfries,
I noticed that when embedding this map extension in jquery tabs the maps do not load correctly in Firefox & IE. They load perfectly well on Chrome, Safari & Opera.
If the extension is displayed on the 1st tab then it loads ok, it is only when the map is displayed in a tab that is not initially on display that this problem occurs.
See here:
http://www.spy.my/johor/Thistle-Johor-Bahru.html
Ok, this is using the old version of the map extension. But I'm currently re-designing the whole website & I found this same problem also occurs in the latest version. On the above page example if you drag the map down & right you can see the actual location.
Is it possible to rectify this in 'object HTML' then placing some code into custom style?
From what I read on the web wirh regard to jquery tabs, the map is not called on page load because it is inside a tab, but then the tab is opened it is not calling the map correctly.
I don't know if that makes sense because I'm no expert on this coding stuff, there's quite a bit of info on stackoverflow:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6103 ... query-smth
Please Advise

At the moment I cannot advise you on this as I do not have any access to PC/Laptop to test why this is happening. You probably wondering how I am replying then, simply using my phone, as soon as I can I will try and answer.

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
@JimmyJazz Ok I am back, I have just took a quick look at this, now when I add the jquery Tabs to a blank page and add the latest version of the extension using the lat&long already in the properties and just add two pins for images it seems to work as it should. One issue could be is that you are only setting the size of the map to 400px x400px instead of setting the size to fit the area of the Tab area that it is resting in. Another thing I also noticed is this, can you say what version of the jQuery Tabs are you using? looking at the source it looks like you are using a very old version of jQuery ie 1.4.2 were the version I am using is 1.7.2, on another note it may also be a conflict with the discus script that your using. As I have said I have just quickly looked at this, what I would ask is this, try inserting a jQuery tabs on a blank page insert the map extension and see if it still gives this and let me know...as always I will do what I can to assit.
Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
Hi Baconfries,
jquery is same as yours 1.7.2 (live site maybe older version as when it was installed but the issue is still exactly the same)
I tried what you suggested & created a new page & placed some text on 1st tab & a map inside the 2nd tab without any html boxes or disqus & found the following browsers rendered the page:
chrome - success
IE 8 - success
opera - success
safari - success
firefox v18 - failed
I made the map 95% the tab width & the icon still does not display in FF (i must drag down to the right)
I'm unsure if this is connected, but, I also found that Disqus does not work on firefox when nestled inside jquery tabs
Just wondering, were you able to replicate (on ff) the issue I described?
What version ff & was it success?
jquery is same as yours 1.7.2 (live site maybe older version as when it was installed but the issue is still exactly the same)
I tried what you suggested & created a new page & placed some text on 1st tab & a map inside the 2nd tab without any html boxes or disqus & found the following browsers rendered the page:
chrome - success
IE 8 - success
opera - success
safari - success
firefox v18 - failed
I made the map 95% the tab width & the icon still does not display in FF (i must drag down to the right)
I'm unsure if this is connected, but, I also found that Disqus does not work on firefox when nestled inside jquery tabs
Just wondering, were you able to replicate (on ff) the issue I described?

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
Good morning, has anyone had this problem? Note the map icon image and the shadow, and the strange behavior with the zoom...
Wysiwyg builder ver. 8.5.4
Extension: google maps v3 (recent version)
Right latitude and longitude:
Results:
Tested with Chrome, Safari, Firefox, IE.
Do you know if Is there a problem with Google Maps?
The old "google map street v.3" still works fine!
Thanks a lot...

@JimmyJazz I will need to look at this further, on testing the map with the jQuery Tabs you can insert the map in the first with no issue it on on inserting in the second that it loses focus. If needed i will contact Pablo asking for his input to maybe why you can use on thr first and not others.

Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
@redbadnap looking just at the screenshots alone (As I cant view the code of the page extension used on) it looks like you have not entered and height and width for either the map pin image and the shadow this would explain why it looks odd in various zoom.
Re: Google Maps API v3 ***Update 09/11/112***
Hi Bacon, you're right! I forgot to enter the width and height of the pin! (Am I stupid? )
Thank you very much!

@JimmyJazz I have found a little workaround insert the following in Page HTML Between <head></head>tags let me know if this works for you.
<style type="text/css">
.ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide {
position: absolute !important;
left: -10000px !important;
display:block !important;
}
</style>

left: -10000px !important;
display:block !important;
}
</style>

BF;
Is there anyway to "Skin" the Google Maps? I have seen on some sites where it is skinned to suit the overall look of the site. like this
