As I see maintaining updated extensions created by the user is very difficult.
An updated extension in the same posting does not change anything on the extension INDEX page.
Jordan resives a mail iff posted a new extension or a deleted extension from the users.
Do not you think we could create a ftp server or a page where users can upload extensions, and that all can see it as a listing?
Sorry, user extensions should stay on this forum.
How do you link from a listing to the extension posting where users can read how it works and ask for help.

I totally agree with Eddy that the user extensions stay on this forum as they were intended...I am happy enough to keep uploading to mediafire as I have never had any issues with them and if any of the entension I have made have any issues I am only happy to fix them asap all the user neeeds to do is make a posting in the extension posting were I will read it and as mentioned fix asap just my 2pennys worth.....
I have a old expression that I use
"If it not broken dont fix it "

have a website updated with dates and the possibility of direct download. We have over 200 extensions, how a user would know when each of them has been updated?
If a user uploads an extension with a new date in the filename who does remove the old file?
How do users resive a message about an updated extension uploaded?

What about the extensions from Genieuk, you have to signup for his extensions.
What about the extensions from me.prosenjeet they are on his server.
There are a few users who sell the extensions with a protected download.
And there are a few users where you have the download from his own site.

I use mediafire to upload the extensions, and I do not upload my extensions to a site what tomorrow can deleted,i know from mediafire users can always download the extensions.

A year back a user did make a download page with almost all extensions and posted the link here, the link to his website is deleted from support because he did also give as download the official extensions...

I think its simple, if a user like to use an extension in his website than he can look first in this forum if the extension is updated.

I know you like to improve the download system for users but its almost impossible with so many extension builders.

hi ddlg2007,

I think this system, as is, could be better, yes!
but these are user-build extensions, so it always' will be user input.
so even with a better system, you still would have to rely on user input.
I can ask people to send me a mail, they are not obligated.
I can ask people to send me a mail, when they update, they are not obligated.
you can build a system, but who will enforce that system ?
it always' be a sum of mismatch.
and then there is what Eddy and BaconFries already pointed out, support.
this is the best way to get support.
you can search thru the INDEX, look at the info provided, and contact the builder.
even more there is Eddy . :D . and so many others willing to help.
so I think a better user-build extension system is probably a utopia.
unless Pablo would build some integrated user-extension flippa da flop.
don't see that happening in the near future.
and frankly ... give-the-man-a-break . .
and even then, it still would be user input you have to rely on.
my pence on it . 8) .

I did make a INDEX with dates but withdrew the concept,
reallity is, it is not possible for me to keep a INDEX like that up to date.
which would make, such a list worth, little!

That would imply I would have to check each extension to see if it is W3C compliant ?
. . sorry ... not gonna do that! .

Evening jordan think neo was asking can you add this reference to the thread only if the builder informs you that it has been tested and complies to (W3C) HTML 4.01 Transitional! or XHTML 1.0 Transitional or both I am working my way through each one of my extensions and doing this and will post in all my extensions the results you already do a great job with this thread so once again thanks for everything you do for it...

Nooo ... I made this list yesterday but with dates where doctype is listed now.
but then I realized no way I can pull that of .. and keep that list updated.
so I threw the whole idea in the bucket, then from YOUR idea I drew this.
so why not a minor update then I thought.

so it looks more flattered then it is.

Jordon,
Here is a new extension. I have also mailed you regarding the same.
PDs 404 PAGE NOT FOUND Extension using EB2.0.2+

Add it to the list please

Jordan, this is just a suggestion...when you add a new extension how about putting the word "NEW" in BOLD in front of it and maybe have it displayed in a different colour so that visitors may find it easily. I see you add that at the top of the list..still give this idea a second thought.
Example :
**NEW** 404 Page Not Found .............................. me.prosenjeet ...... EB 2.0.2 ............ =
Just a suggestion, thanks for your good work

Hello me.prosenjeet

I thought about doing that a while ago, but decided not too
It just would create a lot more work
I would have to follow all changes doing that
If someone would update an extension, I would consider that a new extension to
basically I would be adding dates (following each extension)

also the list itself would become more cluttered and more work doing so
adding ie *NEW* or something like that, would just be more work to compensate to create a straight line
and it already looks like spaghetti . .

so with that in mind I decided not to do so.

If you look at the index, it includes the official ones too.
And consider the fact when extentions are updated/added/removed (believe me, this happen frequently), poor Jordan will have a tough time updating the zip file every now and then. Moreover, not all users require all the extensions. When they need, they visit the index section, select the one and download it. I think it is better the way it is
