I have to agree with itsanogo. what does your extension do? It simply is a link to a blog that you need to setup and configure.

See, webbuilder is a web designing software for those who have little knowledge about installing of scripts like blogs/cms/forums..this is the reason extensions like the official 'blog' and 'news writer' were introduced. What this script is doing , it is simplifying the initial few steps and allowing the user to handle the blog directly from his site. You may be surprised, the file has been downloaded 62 times since I made the post(about 24hrs back)....and these people wouldn't have downloaded if they had known how to install and run a blog on their site(there is one more reason I have used a blog that doesnt require SQL data base).

Code: Select all

sneil69 wrote:
"It simply is a link to a blog that you need to setup and configure."

This extension isnt just creating a link to the blog on your page...but is uploading the whole blog to a predefined folder so there is easy install and use....the link has been made to be customizable so that it can be matched with the other links/menu of your main web pages.
This extension is just to simplify the process. Blogs/cms/forums needs installation from server side, which sometimes causes troubles of various kind, and no extension can install it for you...I am trying to make the initial steps simple.

Most people download the extension to see what it does, so out of the 62 you can count me out making it 61 I know how to create Blogs, CMS and so on.

Good Extension, but I dont think most users that do not know how to edit CSS or PHP could use this extension. I do like the way it simplifies the process and a good start at the blog.

If you can ReCreate the Extension, And I tell you I could not create even one, to be able to have the Header Picture, Footer, Colors and so on. So that novice users can change items within the extension itself, would be great.

Keep up turning out the extensions, Great so far! Looking forward to more extensions from you!

:)

Your Blog extention is just great...........so easy to use

What about a "photo bucket" type extention?

I have been looking at many "Scripts" and they all seem hard to install
you have to use "MySQL" and many other things in order for users to
have there own accounts and gallerys and catagories.......

I have installed a forum on my site but I dont like it either because
of the difficulty in managing and trying to make it look like my site.....

I would like to have a "Forum" & Photo Bucket" match my site Color, logo and so on.

Just like your "Blog" extention I was able to make it look like my site
& so easy to install.............

OH.....if I send you my background & Truck pic from my site could you make a theame for me?

Best Regards V8

I will look for a free forum/Photo script that matches the need of all and try to make an extension. If you are aware of any such script do let me know.
The template you are asking for, do you need it for Joomla or Wordpress? For webbuilder, your template is excellent.

Did you follow the steps as mentioned in the pdf guide in toto? (please cross check)
Did you fill all the variables in the extension? (please cross check)

Personally, I did install the blog using the extn and it is there in the demo working perfectly. Frankly, I really don't remember if there were any additional settings etc. Perhaps v84x4 could help here as he is using the blog extension on his website.
Let me go through the thing again

Question about configuration file

Posted: Sat Apr 11, 2009 5:31 am
by armstead
I read the instructions and am a little confused.

You mentioned filling in the config file with a code. Is that within the extension, or is that something I have to contact the host server about?

yettyn I can see your point..being a extension builder myself I dont have secrets I have asked for help when making extensions myself but how I started was to download the examples and take it from there and if I got stuck I asked....the original script for the recommend extension can be found at link I have my own version of this that I made to suit myself with the added variables so you can change ie name email friends email comment etc to suit users own language with a few extras also added to suit me. Anyway here is the link for the script:

This Blog project has been closed and is 'as it is'. I am not working on it further. If someone wants, can always find the link to the original script in the extension.

Posted: Sun Apr 12, 2009 5:55 pm
by me.prosenjeet
Yes but I mean for the extension as the problem is each time you publish your manually adjusted files will get overwritten by the ones from the extension.
For this, once you have updated all the files on your server as needed by you, open the project page on which the extension is and delete the extension from the page and place a link which when clicked takes the user to the blog. This way next time there will be no overwriting.

Well I can do bits of my own scripting and can set up my own blog but I still think this extension is fantastic. If you are not confident at scripting or just need a quick blog then you can't do much better than this.

Nice work mate, well done.

As for the container page, you can simply copy the link and add it anywhere in you site

The Blog works perfect and is light on your server as well...only few mbs.
I have added a new demo on my main post...this is an actual blog used by a member of this forum and user of WB.
Have a look : http://www.itdesign.co.za/blog/
Riaan the blog has been beautifully made and thanks for allowing me to use it as a demo !!!!

Hello, I just installed the blog and installation was successful, but after I login and try to select any of the options (Add Entry, Preferences, etc..) It logs me out and I have to login again, but still am not able to edit my new blog.

Several months ago I installed a blog using the previous version and everything worked fine.

The folder is set at 777
What could be the problem??

Hi Prosenjeet,

I would like to pick your brain please.

I am interested in inserting a blog into an html page created with wb.
So let's imagine the normal html page except that some block of it is a blog which means that viewers can insert text in that space. For the protection of the host server, it should only except plain text and should have a buffer limitation so that no one could insert more than a certain amount of text - say, three pages without being stopped. And there should be provision for that ip to be blocked until I (admin) give them permission to load three more pages. It also seems that there would have to be some provision to automatically create additional pages on the host server. But mainly, I just want a very simple way for people who have been approved and who have logged in to be able to add comments or any text to pages that are on the website.

Is that possible??

Thanks much.

Sorry I haven't followed up sooner. I have been producing a couple of videos and it has taken all my time.

Instead of a blog technique. I am studying incorporating collaborative writing into a website design.

I will report back if I come up with a good solution.

thanks,
