Customising Paypal Payment Pages

Post by ColinM »

I've recently come across a few sites that link off to the PayPal payment pages and they present the stock std content and thought it worthwhile to post up that you can modify (to some limited extent) the header/footer/background etc

Have a read of https://cms.paypal.com/cms_content/US/e ... nGuide.pdf - the guide, specificall from page 29 onwards.

There ARE some drawbacks - the header/fotter image dimnensions ARE VERY limited.

You have to host the imbedded images and link to them on your merchant PayPal payment pages. That means that if you don't have a digital certificate, you risk the old https SSL mixed (unsecure) content - mind you - I've even see that happen with pages from a very large Telco in Australia.

BTW, the page 29 onwards instructions as to the path to the modification page is wrong, here's the correct one:

Logon On > Profile (H sub menu) > My Selling Tools (LHS V Menu) > Update (update link RHS of Custom Pages)

There are many sites that will host (for free) logos for use with PayPal covered by an SSL. This way you can avoid the warnings.

Thanks George - I didn't know that. Can you recommend one George?

I'm just starting to absorb information about PayPal and the whole area of ecommerce. In an endeavour to do so, I set up two PayPal accounts to emulate both sides of the equation. As a buyer (someone that would purchase cart goods off my (website) customer's site) and as a merchant (what my website customer's would get). I then created a test page with a product and Paypal buttons with a a low priced item and purchased something off myself.

I have sent of a web form email, asking if PayPal would update their dimension allowances on Headers and Logos. Whether they will of course, is another matter  .

On Headers, PayPal states:

Header Image URL - Please specify an image that is a maximum size of 750 pixels wide by 90 pixels high. Larger images will be cut to this size. The image you choose will appear at the top left of the payment page. We recommend providing an image only if it is stored on a secure (https) server.

On Logos:

Logo Image URL - Choose an image with a maximum size of 190 pixels wide by 60 pixels high. The image will appear at the top of the order summary. We recommend providing an image that's stored on a secure (https) server.

So, you can see dimensions are somewhat limited.
