Marked up data - improve your sites SEO

Post by JimmyJazz » Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:27 am

Google, Yahoo & Bing have combined to provide marked up data examples that will improve their search results if webmasters implement this code.

The implication being that it may also help to improve your websites ranking :|

There is a collection of example schema's or code on this site:

http://schema.org/

I've been using marked up data on my website for some time now (similar, but not the same as this schema) and after reading this I intend to try some of their examples on a few test pages to see the results.

Just thought I would share this info with the community.

I just encountered schema.org via another route (not WWB forum) and it appears quite useful. I think others here might find it interesting too so I resurrected this thread from 2011 to let you guys know about it.

Hi David

My site is a review site and I alaways include marked up data for each review.

A consequence of this is not higher serps but the star rating does appear where my site is in search (aka trip advisor stars appearing in google search results). This leads to a higher click through rate.

I have also joined Google plus & recently got approved as an author, meaning my photo appears in search next to the link to my content.

I have noticed that a lot of my marked up data is indexed & does quite well in search although I have not done any A/B testing to see if one page lists better than another without marked up data.

Overall I would recommend using marked up data.

Hi Uncle Rich

Just go to the schema.org link in the first post. There are many examples & snippets of code you can use.

Choose what you want then adjust to suit your needs, for example, put your own address into data reflecting that.

Once you have your code, you then just use an html box in WWB & paste it in.
