Form stopped working

Post by aeroflyte » Mon Jun 11, 2018 7:33 pm

Hi all,

For some reason that escapes me, my form at https://www.compositeautomation.com/Contact.php stopped working. I don't get any errors. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
John

Usually when something stops working without making any changes, it is a server/host related issue.
Maybe something has changed on the server?

If it has worked previously and you haven't made any changes to the form then it may just be a temporary server issue. I just sent a test email to see if you will receive. Now on looking at your source did you make any changes to the 'keywords'? as you have double "" at the start and end "" were it should only be "single".

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for responding. I am on a shared host at Inmotion hosting.

Here is a link to their FAQ on this topic. I'd be grateful to know if this is what I should implement. If so, where do I make these changes?

Again, thank you.

I do not think you will need this script. It also uses PHP mail, so the built-in script should also work.

Did you contact your web host to ask if they have changed something?

Now I am learning that the last time this worked was when I was hosted on GoDaddy. I need to do some learning and research on my end before I ask you all for more help.

Thanks

I talked to their support guy. He said that their hosting service makes the mail route through my email which is Office 365 hosted by GoDaddy. I tried to configure the server in the form properties dialog box but it did not work. If you try to send me a note through my contact page you will receive the following error:

PHPMailer error: SMTP Error: data not accepted.SMTP server error: DATA END command failed Detail: 5.7.60 SMTP; Client does not have permissions to send as this sender [SN1PR14MB0158.namprd14.prod.outlook.com] SMTP code: 550

These are the settings I put in:

Server name: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Encryption method: TLS (please note GoDaddy instructions say to use STARTTLS)

User name: is my email address
password: XXXX(not the password but I verified the password)

When I changed the port to 465 I receive this error:

PHPMailer error: SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/ ... leshooting

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
John

This error indicated that the settings are incorrect.

Maybe the 'from' address is not allowed?

You asked:

Maybe the 'form' address is not allowed?

Do you mean 'form' or 'from'? Which error? The one generated by port 587 or 465?

Do I need to change the form field from 'e-mail' to something else?

It is using my main email. Is that an issue?

Thanks
John

I meant the 'from' address.
Some website do allow to sent email from addresses outside the domain.
Do I need to change the form field from 'e-mail' to something else?
Yes, if this is a restriction of your host.

OK. Figured it out. I could not use my Office 365 email. Instead, I use my personal gmail address smtp function and that worked. I'll end up making a new email address just for this purpose. I hope this helps someone. here are my settings:

Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com

On the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" field, enter 587 and mark the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (TLS)".

User name and unique password as appropriate.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Best regards
John
