email via SMTP server

Post by Joseph Lee » Tue Feb 21, 2017 8:03 pm

Hello,

I would like to create a basic web survey, and have the email send automatically in the background via SMTP server configuration and authentication. I have not been able to figure out how to make this work, or where to input SMTP server settings information.

Thank you in advance.

Joseph

I don't think it is possible from inside the Builder. Maybe you need a software like this http://www.deskshare.com/wcm.aspx
I'm confused, what does webcam software have to do with my question?!

I see, thank you.

I did find under Form Processing > Advanced > Email Engine
an option to enter SMTP settings. But I just don't know how to make it work.

In the SMTP settings you will have to enter the SMTP server details of your web host (if they allow this). Only you host can tell you what these values are.
Note that usually the default option also works (php mail).

Followup question please:

In order for the Form to work and send out an email, does the server that's hosing the website need to have an email server running?

Reason I ask, is that this is working only on my external hosting companies server, and not on my intranets ubuntu web server.

I have yet to install sendmail on my private internal server where the Form needs to run...must I do this for the Form to work?

Thank you.

Yes, that is how it works. Any web host should support this.

Yes, otherwise php cannot send emails.

Awesome, thank you Pablo!

Followup:
Installed Sendmail on a Ubuntu server
Had to play a little bit with the hosts file since it's on a private non routable network. BUT, working flawlessly now!
Thank you Pablo!

New to WWB. I am going to be deploying on a Ubuntu 16.04 server.

What do I need to do to get WWB to use an external SMTP server?

Not quite understanding here what was done to make it work.

Thanks for any help.

You can configure the SMTP settings in the form properties (Advanced->Mail Engine)
