FTP authentication

Post by Donald » Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:27 pm

Made no changes and in passive mode, started receiving Publish Failed. Since I made no changes I contacted the web host. Back and forth, then they sent below. Can you direct me to answer these two questions from the web server?
1.Where I can make sure I have enabled authentication during FTP session.
2. How to provide webserver with link or application so they can try it. (I do not see how this is possible since it is part of WYSIWYG software.)
Thank you for any help.
See below

Upon checking I notice there is authentication error during FTP session.

Please make sure you have enable authentication during FTP session.

Also can you provide me the link or application that you have used for FTP so we can try it out from our end .

Please post a copy of the Publish log so we can view to assist. Is it possible that your host/server has switched from FTP to SFTP? if so you will need to use another software to upload or see the following extension (Paid)
Secure FTP extension released (paid).
See the following for useful reading.

How do I verify that my publish settings are ok?

First note that if you have made no changes yourself then in my experience it's always a web host related issue.
The software does not suddenly start behaving differently.
Please make sure you have enable authentication during FTP session.
Maybe they mean you will have to use Secure FTP instead of standard FTP?
Also can you provide me the link or application that you have used for FTP so we can try it out from our end .
The software can be downloaded here"

Error 12002 is a timeout, which means that the data cannot be sent to the server.
Usually this indicates a firewall related configuration error.
Did you recently update your firewall?

Did you try a to switch to 'winsock' FTP engine?
Do you get the same error?

Which version of WWB do you have? Back in early ver 11 I had this problem and had to switch off "Passive mode" to workarround...

Thank you Pablo, Bluesman and Bacon Fries.
A combination of your last two post.
1. I unclick passive mode.
2. Doing so brought up Windows Defender Firewall window, stating some aspects of WYSIWYG 11 were being blocked and did I want to allow access.
When clicked yes, and published, it DID publish. Halleluja.
Thank you all very much. :D
Don't know why this happened all of a sudden, no problems all this time.
