After resampling an image and publishing, why a file name change to numbers?

Post by Astro » Sat Nov 04, 2017 4:29 am

Curious about the logic behind why WB automatically changes the image file name to numbers after resampling and publishing?

Why not keep the original file name but add a prefix or suffix? Changing the file name to a number makes it very difficult to identify the image on the server later.

To clarify, if I add an image named frank.jpg to a page and click "resample". The image properties still show the image name as frank.jpg. But the actual file uploaded to the server is img0001.jpg. Why all numbers in the name?
Why not frank(1).jpg or rs_frank.jpg?

I'm about to resample 100+ images and would rather not have them all numbered.

See this related FAQ:

Note that it's always better to resample/optimize the images before adding them to the pages. This will reduce the memory usage and increase the overall performance.
