Responsive menu - reducing the spacing between menu items

Within a responsive menu, is it possible to reduce the spacing between the selected menu items, thereby making the menu shorter?

open up the settings, go to style tab and under Main Menu change the padding left/right settings.

Tried this already. Makes no difference except in the default view. On the different viewpoints, it makes no difference.

If you are referring to when the menu flips to vertical, then try adjusting the padding top/bottom values under 'sub menu'
