OnMouseOver Events

Post by LJLachance » Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:48 pm

I've searched and I must be doing something wrong so here I am. I have a word, in a sentence, in a block of text inside a layout grid. I want to create a "tooltip" or "description box" or something so that when the user hovers their mouse over the word, the block pops up (at the location of the word or in very close proximity). The block needs to contain both text and a small image/icon although I can do without the image if needed.

I've managed to get it to work using a shape and events but the shape pops up outside the grid (actually outside the page). If I try to place the shape where I want it to pop up, it moves to the bottom of that layout grid and then won't pop up. So I know I'm not doing something I should, but what is it.

I tried a modal layer and that will work except, once again, I can't get it to stay with the general area of the word over which I want this.
I also tried the jquery tooltip but I can't even get that to pop up.

Looking for direction or advice at this point.

Thanks as always,

Larry

Sorry for this post, I've come up with a solution that will work. While not exactly a tool tip, using a modal layer with and image and a text box (with a little style on the side) will serve the purpose.

Although it would be nice to find out how to do the tooltip thing for text inside a layout grid (if it's possible).

Thanks...no need to reply.

Maybe this will be helpful?

Note that the shape can also be a layer.

Or you can also use a card as popover:

Thanks Pablo - I've reviewed the "more_events" link and couldn't grasp the concept well enough to make it work. I also tried the "cards" thing and couldn't get it to pop up near the word I wanted to use in the sentence.

I've looked at tutorials but don't know how to implement with WB. I know you don't support it so I will eventually figure it out but, this is what I am trying to do...

https://www.w3schools.com/css/tryit.asp ... ooltip_top

For the time being, I've got something working with a layer and a text box and while I can't located exactly where I want, it is visible in any break point so I'm happy.

Thanks,

Larry

Isn't the 'more events' tutorial exactly what you want to do?
What is the exact problem?
Does my demo work for you?

Also the built-in tooltip works exactly the same as the website you are referring to.

Pablo,

You ask:
What is the exact problem?
My reply is going to be "ME!" I will figure it out. Each time I follow the tutorial, the shape wants to end up inside (at the bottom) of the current layout grid. Not to worry, I'll get it, I'm just slow to figure things out as I continue to learn something new with every day I use WB. I really like it and for those things I've become familiar with, I couldn't ask for more.

Thanks for the reply.

The tutorial was designed to be used with fixed page layout. The shape will end up exactly where you have placed it.
So, this may not be a good option for flexible layout grids.

However, the pop over card should work with layout grids.

Thanks, I'll give that a try and see what happens.

Why do we have to use an object to get to that menu to have mouse over effects? why can we not have it on picture inserts? that would be great.

Just asking

To have to add an object over every photo image to show pop up info seems like more work?

Why do we have to use an object to get to that menu to have mouse over effects?
Because you will have to define the content of the popover somewhere.
Also by using another object you can add tooltip functionality to any object, not just an image.
